Hey KLX guys.

Re: the KDX snorkel, tearing the snorkel (and airbox lid) completely off is one of the well-known cheap/free mods that KDX riders do to uncork their bikes. I'm sure there are lots of free KDX snorkels laying around in garages. If you know any late model KDX riders, see if they'll give you theirs.

I might have one laying around in my garage. If so, it's free to anyone who wants to pay postage.

Mav, look at the complete part number, not just the reference number on the schematic -- should be something like 39061a-XXXX. You may find that the reference number is the same for several bikes, but the complete part number is different. I ran into this several times while researching parts compatibility for my KLR250 -- initial joy, tempered by the ultimate realization that the parts were actually different.

Hope I'm wrong, though...

Edited to add: Doh -- missed the last page. Happy Boy beat me to the info

Finally we got a nice day in North Carolina after nothing but bad weather since I picked it up last Saturday. Back roads got me here.

Here's a shot down by Jordan Lake. While just tooling around back roads trying not to go over 4K RPM during the break-in period, I spot what looks like a 100 year old logging road off to my left. I turned around and approached with caution, since I'm a bit rusty from lack of riding for so long. After following it for a while I ended up here. This is the first off-road I've had it - it does great. I went through some pretty soft swampy stuff with no problem at all. It also eats small logs for an afternoon snack - barely felt them as I picked my path around overhung trees and over wooded debris. This bike is hungry for more.

Nice pics there Nobrakes!

How many miles does everybody have on thier bikes now? We have 190 on ours. We should have way more than that by now but I've got my KTM down for maintenance right now, so the KLX is also setting idle. The wife did take it to town (only 2 miles each way) to do some errands for the first time by her self and she came home with a big smile on her face from the experience.

How 'bout some pics of faces so we can all see who we're talking to?

Here's mine.

Thumb good info! Thanks

Well fellers, I have been kicking around the KLX250 or the KLR650. I am happy to announce with the assistance and information from mainly this set of posts that I started the process of getting my very own shiny green machine (KLX250) and I am amped! Thanks for the good amount of input and some real riders point of view.

Wondering about the U.S. issued speedo. Can it be reset by tenths of a mile, or just back to 000.0?

Hey Rusty, are you talking about the trip meter on the odometer? I just went out and tried it and as you reset it by turning the knob (its an analog unit not digital like the KLX400), it adds miles until it comes back around to zero. Is that what you were inquiring about?

Randy.

Well then MATE , I always wondered what an "Aussie" looked like! Just kidding, we had an exchange student come live with us in the 70's from down-unda. She tried and tried to get us used to the taste of Veggemite(spelling ?), but never succeeded.

Cheers Mav!

Randy.
