Lots of folks use a 60Cx with great success even with its few shortcomings. I use one a lot and it has never led me astray. Its a good unit, IMO and lots of other folks. Good luck with yours.

CN retails here for $195 Australian.
A cheapo consumer gps can be had for the same price, with autorouring street maps, POI,s, etc. Some stores are giving them away with purchases over a certain dollar amount, and I think the threshhold is $999. Garmin pricing is just stupid.I really like the 60CSx, I just wish it did autorouting like it's bigger brothers, that's the only real gripe I have with it. |

The 60CSx does do auto-routing. It just needs an auto-routing map package to be useful. The base map will auto-route but it just isn't real useful. The 60CSx is sold ala-carte; gps, maps, mounts all sold seperately. That makes it more expensive. Do you have a 60CSx now?

Phil, I think he already has the unit and was talking about the way they do routing ie recalc with your via points.

Yup. The explanations I found here described it very well. The way it does a recalc (unlike say a 276) is a bit of a bummer, but small cheese really in the overall scheme of things, and the workaround with via points is enough to get by. It's just annoying. On the bright side, the cortisone injection in my shoulder is beginning to work, and I can feel a return to riding fitness in the next week or so. Can't wait to try out this gps to log a track or two.

More fun with tracks.
Get a copy of GPSU (my favorite). Open the Mapsource .GDB file in GPSU Edit (or not) as you wish. Save as Google Earth .KML Open in Google Earth. I save all of my rides in daily increments - it's a lot of fun to revisit favorite rides in G.E.

Garmin to Add Custom Symbols and Tracklog Improvements to Oregon x50 - GPSFix Blog
I posted this in the Garmin Oregon topic already but I think it might be appropriate here too, since it shows the way Garmin's going with their newer units, and might be of interested to those who haven't been following the Oregon thread.
From the GPSFix Blog: Here’s something bound to make Garmin Oregon 450 and 550 owners happy. Two new posts from Garmin on their trail tech blog indicate upcoming support for custom waypoint and geocache symbols and improved tracklogs. While the beta software doesn’t seem to be available yet the posts look promising. Here’s a summary: - Custom Symbols - Create your own bitmap symbols, up to 32 pixels wide by 32 pixels high - Override built-in waypoint or geocache symbols - Add up to 56 new waypoint symbols Tracklog improvements Configure daily or weekly track archives Change the color of the current tracklog View archived tracks on the GPS Use the stopwatch to start and stop archive tracks Mark archived tracks as favorite saved tracks so they can be navigated, viewed, etc Archive your favorite saved tracks No word on whether either of these features will be available on the Dakota, Colorado or Oregon 300/400. Once the beta software is available I’ll be posting tips on how to use both new features. End quote These are the posts referred to in the blog post above: http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupda...archiving.html http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupda...m-symbols.html Go to the GPSFix Blog here: http://www.gpsfix.net/custom-symbols...-improvements/

Can any of you tell me how to find a track file on my garmin 60csx after I transfer it from basecamp? I'm litterally getting ready to slam my head against a wall!
Laymans terms for the (obviously) technologically challenged please. I opened the file in basecamp, sent it to my 60csx, but now I can't figure out how to find it on the 60csx. It's really starting to frustrate me... Now I remember why I was so fond of my maps! ![]() Any suggestions? |

Well, then it sounds like the track file didn't transfer. What did you do to (unsuccessfully) try to transfer the file?
