I have owned my 2006 Vee for a little over 2 years. I have put 3600 miles on it. I know it's not many for some but I traded a 2007 VFR with 2600 miles on it and 420 of them were on it when I got it two years before. Love the Vee, just need to save some money for a smaller dual sport. Hopefully another Suzuki.

Hey, looking for information on the "new" 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 Adventure? I've read it doesn't have much in the way of spec changes from earlier models, but I can't find HP ratings stated anywhere. On a pipe site, I saw a dino that showed 91HP for stock, that sound about right? Weight shows 555 or so... And the seat looks comfy with fairly low pegs...
I'm looking for a bike for taking the pillion on trips, mostly weekend/day trips, but she has specific needs; more can be found at: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=694261 We are comparing the Duc Multi and the Triumph Tiger Explorer on the "adventure bike" side of things, and in doing research I found this "new" Strom... If it is just over 500 and close to 100HP rear wheel, it'll be hard to pass up at under $12k with luggage...

I believe the 1000 is unchanged, the 650 got all the attention. And that doesn't mean i wouldn't trust it more than the explorer and multi, I would 100%

So a few questions on the 650 vs. the 1000. I'm planning on getting a 650 so I'm more interested in the facts for this bike.
1... Whats the extra power output for this bike? I want to put on some extras like, extra lights and a heated jacket, maybe two. 2.... What are some "weight eliminating" tricks for this bike? IE.. take off "xxx". Swap out "xxx" with "xxx", and so on and so on. 3... Whats the tallest gearing one can go with and still have the power to pull 90mph on the freeway? I'm trying to get the best gas milage out of it. Thanks for the help.

I went to 'Big St. Charles Motorsports' today. I saw a new 2012 Yamaha Tenere' with no luggage, for US $14,999. Next to it sat (2), new 2012, DL1000 Suzuki V-Stroms. The DL with Suzuki matching bags and trunk was $11,999. The naked DL was $10,999. The dealer said that he would come down on the Suzuki prices. The Suzuki V-Twin motors are probably the most dependable 1,000cc to 1,200cc engines in any motorcycle today. I have 35,000+ on mine. 91 hp is about right.

So I've been going over this thread for some time now in preparation for buying a DL650. Currently on page 49. I have yet to notice something so I'll just ask....... On some of the other threads people post what they have done to reduce the weight on their bikes.
What have people done to their DL650's to reduce the weight and give better power to weight performance? I'm thinking if the aftermarket guards and racks and such add weight, than you should be able to get rid of some stuff to help off set it. For instance on my XR650L I can ditch the rear tail light (for something lighter) and lose 4 pounds, relocate the battery and fuse box, lose 3 pounds, and then simply take stuff off and lose more weight. I'm not looking to take off like 100 pounds or anything. I'm just looking to off set the weight of the guards and racks I'm going to put on. So that when I do go touring, it will be that much lighter, even if its just by 8 pounds.

Not as big of a deal on the 650 since there's only one pipe instead of two, but I put akra titanium pipes on my 1000. Saved a LOT of weight compared to the stock anchors.
One of those new-fangled lithium batteries would also save a few lb's... |
