Hey Doc, it's a Windstrom and it works very well. I shimmed out the bottom of the windshield mount a bit to give the shield more rake and that made it even better. The buffeting with the stock shield was more than I could handle. My previous bike was a R1100RT though so my buffeting tolerance might be a little wussified.

sweet pics Chip n' Dave

Really enjoyed the pics of the two black beauties on the bridges. Didn't know they had them covered ones in Alabammer. I love old carpentry.

Dave, glad to see you out Strommin' in the good weather. Wish I had some here.... 'Tis a bit cold in Dah Norte.....

Nice. Looks like you got the angle of the dangle right. Thanks!

Dang! I love those black V-Stroms! Mine is silver, there was no black available in K3.

Is it common to build bridges, in WVA, without guardrails?

Is there a windstrom available for the early V-Stroms with the non-adjustable screen? I don't mind the buffeting all so much but I could stand an improvement.

Doc, my Windstrom is mounted in the middle position, with 2 spacer-washers, under the Windstrom on each of the two, lower-position mounting bolts. I'm about 6'1" with a 36" inseam (very long legs and relatively short upper body) and can look over the upper edge of the shield by about 1.5" to 2", at eye-level. It is a standard size screen, not the tall version. Just thought this may help you with determining the mounting position of your's, if you use one.

Standard windshield

I'm 5'11 and I'm happy to report on my 40 mile ride home after purchasing the bike was great. No buffeting at all up to 70ish which is as fast as I wanted on the new bike, I wear a scorpion helmet (best helmet I've owned by the way)

I'm 5'10" and have no problems with the stock screen at all, it seems like it's the taller folks who're experiencing difficulties.

Heck, around here they build bridges that are below the water (they call them low water bridges).

Here's a few more from today's ride in and around NoVa and WV,,,,

Here's the road leading to the bridge:

By the time I left this spot, around noon, the temps had risen dramatically, so I stripped off the heated gloves and slipped into these:

I had forgotten how much 'feel' these Alpinestars provide.

Next, I headed into WV, and shot the bike from every angle

and was reminded the WeeStrom is NOT a dirt bike

Oh what the hell, how 'bout another,,,

always nice to see some green in Jan (whoops) February

Howdy folks, that would be me in the mirror:

Back into Va, and a little country bridge:

and finally, one for the road:

I only rode 275 or so miles today, but it sure beats work(sucks).

The Oneonta Chamber of Commerce will provide tour maps. They have an annual Covered Bridge Festival in the town and a tour of the bridges. The highest one in the US is located there. Also, the seventh longest one in the world. The seventh, longest one was unfortunately destroyed by arson, several years back.

Here in a link to a page with some great photos and info on each bridge: http://www.alabamatv.org/bridges/photos.htm

The covered bridge in one of my photos is not in Blount County; it is in an area with very few covered bridges. I'm planning a V-Strom ride to Blount County soon, to visit the covered bridges there, and will post more photos after that.

Chip
Sweet, Thanks. My lady is requesting a major tour of the south in the coming year, and that's now saved in my hotlist.

I can't get out riding today, but I can plan for the coming season.

Laugh Another n00b surfaces...

Time to stop lurking and show off my 3 week-old ride. Haven't been able to ride much yet, but I can tell we're going to have fun together!

Great pics on this thread!
