V Strom windshield

Has anyone tried a Windstrom Manta windshield and what are your thoughts of it over the stock one. 5'9" and getting buffeted in all three positions with the stock one (the forth "un-official" position looked goofy to me).

Thank you.

Greg

I don't have the Manta but I can tell you that a new shield will work wonders - I got the Cee Bailey. Taller and WIDER than stock. Go for it. And you might consider RichlandRick's mirror extenders too (on Stromtroopers or VSRI). Moving the mirrors out a bit will not only help visibility but reduce buffeting.

Howdy,

175 miles on a 2009 DL650 w/ABS and enjoying it.
It has been a wacky couple weeks and i have been meaning to introduce myself some where around ADV, and this seems like a good place.

I would post a picture by my picture posting skills are lacking.

this should be a link to a picture:

Just turned over 30k on my 650. Recently, a friend of mine who now has over 150k on his vtx 1800 ask me what I'd get if something happened to the strom. I thought about for a minute and replied, "probably another one just like it ... maybe with ABS". I think he's seriously considering one after following me for 20k or so miles .. that is if and when his vtx dies.

Been lurking here for some time now and figured this was a good place to finally get my feet wet. I see quite a few refugees from stromtrooper over here and I'm one of them myself. Man, this place ROCKS!! So much bigger and better than brand X. I think I'll stick around a while.
Had my blue 07 650 for about 8 months now and I have loved every minute of it. Best bike I've had hands down. Now lets see if I can crack the code to post a pic... WTF do you have to do to get a pic to fit? make it the size of a friggin postage stamp?

Welcome to the asylum....

As for the pics, get a hosting account like SmugMug and post pics till the cows come home.

I also use Stromtrooper and VSRI, but for different purposes. For me, ADV is for fun, the other two are for taking care of the bike.

And I see you're in NC. Let's ride!

Thanks JB, I've got photobucket already and have posted pics in the past, but
I keep getting "download failed" whenever I try no matter what size. I'll stumble across the right combination sooner or later. I was just getting kinda burned out on stromtrooper, needed a change. I really like the "v strom thread guide " at the top of the page. lots of useful info.
I hear ya on taking a ride, however I'm waiting on a new rear tire as mine is showing past the cords in a 2 inch strip right in the middle, and its only got 7500 miles (WTF?) Should be here on tuesday. My work schedule is kind of wierd. 12 hr. days thurs. fri. sat and every other wed. So my days off are Sun. Mon. Tues. and every other Wed. I plan on coming to your neck of the woods very soon to cash in my Richard Petty ride along gift card. 3 hot laps around LMS @170 mph. Done it once before and can't wait to do it again!!
I can show you some pretty cool roads around here too. Just PM me anytime and we'll figure something out.

Hey all - Name's Guyver and I'm in the club. Just got my Wee back from the dealer last night; logged 215 miles on it today. Love it. Reading the threads I assumed that riding a Wee off-road = Crashing a Wee off-road. So, I said to myself - not riding a Wee off road until I get some crash bars and a skid plate. What happens? Find myself on the top of Figeroa Mountain today - you guessed it off-road! No problems.

First Ride results.

Top Speed on Road = 105
Top Speed off-road = 30
Ride time = 4.5 hours
Miles = 215
Pictures taken = 86
Fun Factor = Off the charts
Passing a beemer on-road and a 4x4 truck off road with a Wee - priceless!

Regards to all.

Bought my Yellow Wee the end of July after my Moto Guzzi went back to the shop (still in the shop today). I have added a Scottoiler, Suzuki Centerstand, Suzuki Handguards, Suzuki Heated Grips, Caribou Hardcases, Kaoko throttle lock, 12v accessory plug under seat, wired my GPSr and a Ram mount for that too. Put it into storage last November with 7350 miles.

Now at 9500 miles and want to get a gel seat before the North American V-Strom Gathering in the Black Hills of SD. Also might need new tire before or after the trip. So far this year I am averaging 51 mpg with the crap gas/ethanol that we have here.

Just moved my windshield up and it helped a lot with the buffeting. Did not see a 3rd or 4th area for adjustment.

So far I tipped it over turning on a steep hill fully loaded for the weekend. All that happened was a scratch on the corner of the Caribou case, scratch on the bar end and broken turn signal.

Really enjoy this bike and having lots of fun.
