I cut the rod in half and made two supports. I broke one side and ended up making these out of steel.

Exactly what I did. The problem is the first time I did it, it wasn't quite level hence the left hand side was able to touch the top of the engine. Found it in time and made a new bracket that evened it out.

That is exactly what I was looking for

The other one is fine for a car but just a bit too big to carry on a bike.

I got the regular pivoting (not anti-vibe) 2 inch 7/8 to 1 1/8th risers. Clearance on the tank is fine and stock cables are fine with my Pro Taper RM mids.

By the way, wouldn't it be nice, after years an years of Acerbis showing everyone that a dual petcock is possible, if IMS and Clarke would follow in their footsteps at least on this? I really wanted the Acerbis tank, but read too many bad comments about them being very difficult to install. I might try to retro-fit a second petcock on my Clarke, and then sue 'em when they take my design!

My XRL came with the Acerbis tank. I really like it, the 2 petcock set up works great.

BTW, what problems are there installing the Acerbis tank?

Yeah, my last bike (WR450) had an Acerbis tank on it that I installed, dual petcocks are the way to go.

As far as problems go, I guess you have to relocate your blinkers, and shave down those "pins" that are welded to the frame. I don't know what to call them, but those things the slots on the OG tank fit on. I've also heard the bar lock doesn't work with that tank, but I'm not sure how true that is???

Er, uh, I was just hoping my comment would inspire someone else to do it first!

You know what though, I bet you can just order the petcock adapter from Clarke, an OEM petcock from Honda (or just some sort of valve), drill a hole, and mount it right up. From there, just get yourself some automotive fuel line, a brass T, and set it up.

Acerbis tank issues were, like stated earlier having to relocate blinkers up about 2" or so, cut pins off the frame, and relocate my regulator. I welded a bracket to the tube support that came w/ the acerbis tank. So i then just screwed the regulator to that instead of the frame. Some people have said they didn't get the full benefit of the reserve because the carb is located higher than the lowest part of the tank. I've never ran my gas that low to really know, but it doesn't look like there will be a problem with that. If i was that low and the reserve gas wasn't feeding through gravity feed, i guess you could try and tilt the bike to consolidate it all into one side.
Its a much tighter fit than the stock or the clarke 4.7gal tanks ive dealt with before. I think its worth making sure everything is seated correctly and firmly, and not rubbing up against anything , like the regulator for example. Its so big it can be hard to see underneath to fit it all together the first time. That being said i love my new tank, and dont understand why nobody else uses double petcocks, just makes too much sense? maybe.

I guess I'm old-school...I just lay my bike on it's side to get the fuel on the petcock side.
