What did it take to get the stock speedo drive working? Is that the xrl hub and axle? And why no skid plate or perfomance exhaust?

I picked up this XRL earlier this year, May I think. I saw a posting on Craigslist and was the second to call but the first to answer his return call. He had run the bike low on oil and the engine seized on the road. He took it to the Honda dealer where they took it all apart and gave him the estimake. No thanks he said and the bike sat in his garage for two years. Being unemployed he had to sell it. He was asking $500.00. Needless to say I swooped on it.

Sorry, My arm wasn't long enough.

He even threw in the oil and filter he bought to do the oil change. Opps, to late.

Later that day

Since I had a cylinder and a Wiseco 675cc/10:25 piston all set up, this is what it looked like a week later after I sent the head out for a valve job. The bike only had 7200 miles on it but the exhaust valves were leaking.

All done

So my buddy GAVE me the Clarke 4.7 tank as he didn't like how hot his bike ran with it

RSW Racing triple clamps

The build. Wiseco 675cc/10:25 piston, Engine Dynamic's competition valve job, Dave's mods 58/160, Uni filter, XR600 muffler with the core removed, Header welds ground down, RSW Racing triple clamps, CRF450 forks, CRF450X front wheel to drive the speedometer, Pirelli MT21 front, Dunlop 606 rear, +2 rear sprocket, these are my dirt wheels, Renazco Racing seat +1" high suede top, leather sides, E-Bay rack, Cycra CRM handguards, E-Bay $18.00 pegs.

Normally on these builds I install a Mega Cycle cam and a big header but I didn't have the $$ this time. It works just fine as it is. I have a skid plate but I haven't put it on. Not sure if I will. The OE tail light and turn lights are still on because they work. I like being seen. Sorry about the pic's, I have a better camera now.

OK, Now for the killer. Total expense for the bike and build is just over $2000.00. Eat your heart out boys.

Steve. Score!!!! I want to repaint my frame and gusset the sub frame. I also want to paint the cases. I also want to check the valves guilds. I get a little white some when crank on the gas. You make engine work seem like it easy. Thanks for helping us ff out. Ben

Haven't gotten around to it. Plus I don't ride the bike hard either.

I JUST scored a XR400 oil cooler and lines for $75.00 shipped. Another Craigslist find.
