Did you put in a 55 pilot??????? if so try adsjusting the fuel screw out a little...

Next up is an exhaust leak can do this too...also a punctured decel diaphram like Beechum is refering too or the hose cracked...

Was cleaning the carb tonight and noticed a really small o ring. WTF does that go. Figured I would ask before going to the parts breakdown.

update

Ok thanks guys for the replies. I don't suspect the cdi but I banged, put it back, checked fuel, still plenty of flow, sprayed carb cleaner on boots, no vacuum leaks, and fooled with the idle speed, runs longer before stalling and no more back fire but still stalls after a minute or so and I have to wait a minute or so before it starts up. I'm going to check the valves but I don't have those fancy two way angled feelers and might have to order them. There is a ticking at idle (sounds like an exhaust leak but its not) that seems to go away as I rev the motor, Im not sure if its a bad plug wire or what

Usually the small oring goes at the bottom of the spring/washer on the fuel mixture screw.......

What do i win??????

Put it at TDC on compression stroke,,line up the mark.......pull the adjustment covers..if you can grab the adjuster screw and can`t lift the arm up/down a tiny bit then the valves are tight and you found the problem...

Just make sure you read the manual,,turn the engine over in the proper direction and do not back up if you miss the mark,,or the decomp will activate and the right exhaust valve will show tight..

BUT........my bike would run,,,quit, then not restart and it was the CDI......that`s what got me started rebuilding them in the first place,,but i`d still check those valves first..

Mine is doing the same thing, backfires on decel pretty bad and then dies all the time at idle, conveniently at stop signs and green lights. I'm going to try the pilot screw but would valves do this as well?

Well I think I found the source of the ticking, I checked the valves, intake seems ok, both exhaust valves were tight. Ill have to see tomorrow if crappy Cycle Gear sells the feelers. Man I hope I didnt wreck the motor
