need some input gas leak from breather tube?
Looking for some input, here's the scenario:
2012 XR650L just a little over 240 miles, I've noticed this twice now, I'm seeing some gas leak out of the one tube, not a lot but enough to notice, it seems to happen sporadically. Is this something to worry about? Is this common to the cycle? Fix myself or bring it to the dealer? (I'd rather try and do it myself....) I searched the threads but being a new bike seems odd this is happening. No mods done.....yet. thanks |

you probably have dirty gas and some sediment is plugging up the float valve inside the float bowl...
try tapping the float bowl with the handle of a scredriver while jiggling the bike from side to side... if that doesnt release the crap inside, then the carb needs a thoruogh MANUAL cleaning by manual that doesnt mean just spray carb cleaner... that means taking it apart and cleaning with compressed air and some solvent or whatnot all the passagweays and voids in and out of the carb... be careful with the rubber bits also a dash of seafoam on the next tank fulls or so might be enough to "rinse" the dirty fuel and or varnish away not everybody is a fan of seafoam though... to each there own good luck! try the tapping of the bowl first cheers ps.since its so new is it under warranty? take it back and tell them the float level is messed up and leaking out the overflow, if you dont want to do this yourself...then again good mechanics at dealerships is more scarce than anything these days... |

im a sailor so just take my advice with a grain of salt
seafoam is really good at cleaning gunk and varnish out of fuel tanks, fuel systems... just add a couple of ounces evry tank full, 4-6 ounces actually yeah since its new its odd you have bad gas or something that woukd plug up the float valve, so just take it back in... IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE with the mechanics there... only if not try what I sugested... anyways sometomes dealers though leave gas in the bikes, and well you really dont know if the carb has any "bad" gas or crap n it until you take it apart since its new I wouldnt recomend taking it all apart... just try some seafoam and run it a bit, or the tapping... if you dont want to do that then go and rant at the dealers! jajaaja good luck and welcome |

only if you feel comfortable with them! really cant emphasize this enough unless yo just say change my bike and give me a new one...
i trust dealers and mechaincs no more than I trust a dog with rabies unless they have a great reputation, these days thats few and far between anyways rant over its a simple fix... either way cheers |

I can't emphasize enough- put a real gas filter in the line!
My weird occasional carb behavior, once in a blue moon flooding, 'felt-a-little-off-that-last-ride', all that crap was banished forever after adding a real filter. Dave

also todays gas sucks lasts about two weeks before performance goes down the tube...anopther reason seafoam is good, its a fuel stabilizer too that prevents humidity and moisture to get trapped in the gas and carb... sailor out! cheers |
