I'm thinking fuse. Anyone concur? Didn't have time to look into it today. Gonna tackle it tomorrow.

My '94 has done that twice. Both times I replaced the bulb with no results, checked for power on various wires and finally took the start button switch apart, blew it out with what little breath I had and that fixed it. For some odd reason if the start button doesn't rebound enough or gets stuck in a little, it can kill the front lights but not anything else. Moral of the story, clean all your handbar switches then lube with dialectric grease. Corvallis is moist in the fall/winter/spring just like GA so they can get gunked up. Hope this helps you.

It's your computer. I get a single dotted red line when I miss spell something or the computer thinks I'm mis-spelling something. Which just popped up under MIS-SPELLING.

Hey Steve.. I still haven't fixed my brake light. I was sick all last week and never got around to it. But....I'm much better now and have got four days and nights to either figure it out or take a hammer to the damn thing.

I got a PM from ecubed who lives 15 miles away saying he has one of those windscreens and is willing to sell it to me! Thanks ecubed! I returned your PM.

Welcome to the forum Schultz!! This is THE XRL thread, period.

At 7200 miles you don't have to worry about the cam chain tensioner but your way late on checking the valves. I just serviced a kid here at work 2008 XRL with 8K on it and he was complaining that the bike kept dying and took repeated starts. No wonder. The left exhaust valve had ZERO clearance. He came over to pick it up yesterday and I had him start it in the garage. Full choke and hit the Go button. Fired right up and setteled down to a nice idle with no choke after 10-15 seconds. It never did this before he exclaimed!!
Thanks for the info on the valves Steve. I have no problem, other than starting, on my 2001 XRL, at 7,200 miles, 3,000 of which I put on this summer as it is new to me this year, but the book states 8,000 miles for checking valve clearance. Something I've been worried about. You rock!

I don't care what the book says on the valve adjustment frequency. I check them every time I change the oil since I put most of the oil in through the left intake rocker cover hole. One quart in the frame and one and a half in the rocker cover. Yes this is more oil than reccomended but the bike dosn't know the difference.

Eh that drunken ramble turned out better then i thought.. and thanks for the welcome guys!

So this is were the story and future goal continue (first person this time).

Deciding the bike was just too damned heavy for my scrawny arse, that i no longer have any riding companions and that its a few hours drive just to get to some public trails i decided to make her in to a motartd seeing some great one put together by Kubaik, ASF, XRmanu, and Carlos to name just a few but there bikes are realy quite beutiful. Next was the body panels not really likening the XR look for the street or the CRF/CR fitted look i stumbled across this guy named ebrabaek over at TT in the DRZ400 forums (for the record they have the mod disease much worse then the XR peeps imo) now he is here in one of the BMW forums but he did/does a ton of dyi carbon fiber projects getting me thinking i can make this bike look how ever i want. When i started planing the engine I did not know about Cyclewizard and now have already completed the head mods but man that clover leaf really looks nice.

So im gona try and list the mods being but it would probably be easier to list the last remaining stock parts.

Body

IMS 4 gallon ish tank
simply put no plastic except the gas tank, all plastic components will be replicated or made with custom molds in CF

Frame

Add brackets to down tube for oil cooler
Removed "extra" brackets
Changed rear sub frame

Wheels and tires

CBR F3 cast wheels
avons or pirellis

Suspension

CR 250 front forks
CR lower triple with a RSW upper triple

Engine & Transmission

J&E 10.5 slug
DLC coated wrist pin
megacycle camshaft 173x12
dyi port job
shortened guides and valve job
FCR 40 with adjustable leakjet
barret clutch
NX 2nd gear ( any one have a spare NX5th gear?)
XR600 kicker bits

Electrical

innovative wideband o2
Koso speedo
led tail light
led turn singles
led tun singles in mirrors
turn tech 5.0 a.h. battery
TRX400 ex headlamp
Piaa horn

here are some pics showing my progress to date. note i just have it "mocked up" in the photos for fitment but you will get the general idea

WELCOME!

You might want to invest in an instructional DVD called "Dual Sport Riding Techniques." Easy to understand concepts with examples, illustrations and drills to practice. Increasing riding skill will make a lot bigger difference than any mod to the XR.

Fritz's computer has to be working overtime if it is detecting misspellings!

Welcome!

[QUOTE=Schultz!; Two, i would like to post some progress of the project and shed some of my "lurker" status would it be better in a separate thread or would it be better to post em up in this topic?[/QUOTE]

Very nice Schultz, first post, bangin on the keyboard all drunk. That's never happened here. Post away on that project right here. (I assume you're talking XRL) You're going to fit right in.

Great stuff there thanks for the advise and i do remember vaguely trying to read up on and watch videos on technique.
The ultimate problem again is me im 6ft 140 lbs with a small frame I get made fun of more for my size at work then the lard asses , I think most 9 year old girls have more muscle mass then i do and im not too keen on hiting the gym. To be honest i love the XR but if im realy gona think about playing offroad again and hone my skillset a old pos 80CC big wheel would give me much more of a "forgivable" learning enviroment. That being said the XR is slated to be a pavement pounder primarialy and have a post currently waiting mod review that will explain it a bit better
