Hi All

Thanks a lot, Ben99r1 and mcma111.

katbeanz - I looked at the link you gave and it is explain nice the pitch concept.
Didn't see what is 40 and 50 series in link

The news:
I put the bike at the mechanic today.
He took off the shock and told me that it is not OK.
The ROD should be replace.

He told me that this part is not sold seperatly for XR650L.
The XR600R has catalog number for buying it seperatly.
(52426MN1681 for 1991-1995, and 52426MAG701 for 1996-2000)
He can not comit to what part number to order.

Any thoughts how to proceed ?

Go over to the FLEA MARKET and look for someone that is parting their bike out and buy their shock.

Also you need to fill out your profile.

I put a 606 on the rear yesterday and noticed that the rear tire is closer to the right side of the swing arm than the left. Someone mentioned they had adjusters that were not the same back in a thread from this past January. Is this common? It seems as if the swing arm is symetrical. Other than have someone follow me, is there another way to verify tracking?

Yup, sure enough, adjusters act differently on each side. On the left side the axle fits thru the center hole of the adjuster with minimal slop. On the right side there was a spacer between the adjuster and the swing arm. With the spacer in place, the threads of the bolt is what the adjuster lined up with and the dia. of the bolt was smaller than the hole in the adjuster. I removed the shim and it's better but the axle dia. on the right is smaller than the hole by appx. 1/8". I now have the adjusters different by 2 marks, lower on right side, and have measured as best I can and now have an equal 21 15/16" between axle and swing arm pivot. I noticed when I first got the bike that the handle bars were ever so slightly crooked going straight down the road. I loosened the triple clamps and let the front end relax and retightened everthing, still not straight. Now it appears straight. Bike feels a little different to ride as well.

it should fit, but why that one? It's basically a glide plate with very little coverage, you want something with sides and a beefy front.

Check out XR's Only's website. They have XRL specific ones for $72.99; pick up something else small like a temp dipstick and shipping will be free.

Wow, im totally confused now. I thought the XR650L had alot in common with the XR650R. However thru my readings of this thread and others, im finding out that it has more in common with the XR600R. Does anyone have a list of all the stuff that can be used interchangeably? So far i know of the rear shock, the skid plate, and i think the main counter shaft too.

Very little swap's over between the too. The grips might swap.

Now the xr600r & xr650l theres alot that can be used.
