How about an retired motorcycle speedway?

Or would you rather see some of them bridges?

The first 2 bridges were part of an old railroad track, the last one ist just across the street from that speedway.

Nome, Alaska

This is the infamous Board of Trade Saloon in Nome. I don't drink alcohol so I rarely go in bars (except to dance), but I was told I HAD to stop in this saloon when I visited Nome. I'm glad I went inside as it was very entertaining chatting with some of the locals who are real characters! Now there are lots of gold-miner wannabes in town, changing Nome's social dynamics.

P.S. this saloon, built in 1900, is very old. However, I think it's still a few years younger than Alaska's legendary AlcanRider, one of my friends who suggested I visit the saloon.

Alaska used to have numerous roadhouses located around 20 miles apart, about the distance a dog-sled team or horse-drawn team could travel in a day, especially a short, dark, winter day. A couple of our old, historic roadhouses burned down this past summer, but this very famous roadhouse, at Safety, is still intact. (Although the original structure has been replaced with this building.) Safety is the last check point on the Iditarod Trail that mushers have to check into before they arrive in Nome. After riding along the super windy, chilly, Bering Sea coastline for 30 miles, I developed a much-deeper respect for the mushers who have to travel in sub-zero temperatures. Yikes!
