Hunting hut - Como Lake - Italy

Yesterday morning pic. The "building" is in a very narrow valley close to a waterfall and a torrent. As you can see, at about 800 mt a.s.l. the spring as yet to come.

What a fantastic thread! There's no finer collection of worldwide travel photography than that here at ADVrider

Burned out camp in Western Massachusetts. The apples were picked from a tree on the property.

I am somewhat surprised that New Idria, CA hasn't (yet) made it into this thread.

New Idria was the second largest Mercury (Quicksilver) mine in the US.
Mercury is extracted from Cinnabar Ore.
This mine was established in 1854 and started production of Mercury in 1857 and ran until April of 1972.
Herbert Hoover even made a visit to the mine in June of 1936.
New Idria had what is believed to be the first lighted baseball field in California. (as stated here)
Asbestos was also mined in this area.

More info on New Idria here, here and here.

Here's a photo of the former mercury smelter building with four large Gould rotary furnances taken at New Idria on September of last year...

Since I could only attach 1 photo I will provide more (of this area) in a trip report on a small group ride to this area that can be seen HERE.
This is on the Pashnit Forum.

Whats left of the Indian Agency building on the Kaw Reservation near Council Grove Kansas, in the Neosho Valley.

A Quote from Chief Al-Le-Ga-Wa-Ho on may 27, 1872 in front of the agency building on the Kaw reservation, when told they would be moved to a Oklahoma reservation.

"Great Father, you whites treat us Kon-Zey like a flock of turkeys, you chase us to one stream then you chase us to another stream, soon you will chase us over the mountains and into the ocean and we will have nowhere to live, we do not want to leave the Neosho Valley"

On the old reservation you can find what is left of the 138 stone cabins built for the Kaw in 1861 by the government.

A pic of a reconstructed cabin, from the stones of one of the old ruins, located at the Kaw mission in Council Grove Kansas, not on the reservation.

The Kaw Mission, built in 1851.

The Last Chance store located on the Santa Fe Trail in Council Grove, at one time your last chance to buy beans bacon and whiskey between Kansas and Santa Fe, New Mexico, built in 1857.

The Z-Bar Ranch house built in 1881.

Lower Fox Creek school house, built 1881, used untill 1930.

Out House behind the school.

Another Kansas school house, unpreserved and almost gone.

The ghost town of Volland Kansas, the old abandoned brick store and hotel is one of the last buildings standing.

Across the road is an old false front store, here is an old pic taken inside of it.

Strong City, Kansas Rail Road Depot, closed and abandoned.

Kiowa, Kansas Rail Road Depot, closed and abandoned.

The just this side of a ghost town, Busters in Sun City, Kansas.
