Question 16 or 17 tooth?

Anyone changed coutersprockets on their SXC? the shop today told me they couldn't fit a 17T in there. i have a 15T now, but want to ride at hwy speeds.

Are the SXCs different than the LC4 E in that area? 16t should fit fine, 17t will require a bit of grinding the chain guard to get it to clear the chain.

To fit the 17T sprocket, you need to either grind the stock case guard or fit a special 17t-version of the case guard. Read here, here and here.

i am running the 17T and i just bought a new guard. the street version (Duke) runs the 17 that is why they have a part number. if you look at the micro fis it list both of them.

Hey SXC Riders...anyone want a centerstand...I got one from Munn and had no foot lever. I had one made and welded on. check out the info at the LC4 index.

Alright so I found a 2004 625 SXC with around 12k on it bone stock. The guy wants $4100. If I buy I am going to make the bike my adv/commuter bike. I know the comfort seat is discontinued and the 18L KTM tank only works with that seat. It looks like the best options would be IMS 17L tank with GUTS seat since you just add foam and recover the stock seat. I am concerned about a fairing or windscreen availability. I have had zero luck in finding one. The Hyde one is discontinued. Basically for the price of changing all this stuff I can get a brand spankin new DR650SE. It seems like converting a 625 SXC to adv mode isnt worth it unless you find one sorta-modded already. Also I am 6' and I have heard 6' guys still have to tip-toe the SXC. Im not an experienced dirt rider yet and the seat height discourages me a bit. I really want the performance and better tech on the KTM though. Any thoughts?

The 18L tank work with the regular seat made for it. you don't need the confort seat for it. Your seat might even work with it.

Fairing? How much protection do you want? you can go with the KTM 690 windscreen for $70

That's what I've done on my 640E.

It's enough to move the airflow away from my chest.
Anything bigger would make it a problem for me off-road and single track.
I find this little screen to be just enough.

thanks

Had a 15 on my lc4e 640. Cant fit 17 without some grinding. So I put on 16 and it is a lot smoother and does a lot better on hi way speeds. 17 might make it so you cant get out of second on dirt? but would be nice on hi way speeds. I think the 16 is good for both, not great tho.The 15 kicked ass in the dirt. So 15 for dirt 17 for hi way and 16 for all around.
