Your explanation of the difference combined with a link to the Ebay seller just cost me $20! Figured I'd pick up one of the 525s and check it out. As long as the alignment is correct on my 650SE it sure seems like a good idea. I'm running a 14t with my stock rear sprocket and chain now, but when I replace them it will be with a 15 front and a larger rear, so this will be the front for that combo. Thank You!

Now I'm just a little confused. I've gotta learn to do my research BEFORE I buy things...

SO, from reading the descriptions and looking at JTs web site, I'm thinking that in 525, there is not any difference between the DR750/800 front sprocket and the '96-'12 DR650? Same part number is called for on both specs, JTF1448.xx, and this is the part number in the referenced auctions for the 525 sprockets.

JTF1448.15 is on Amazon for $12. So I guess I just had an an $8 lesson in DR650/750/800 sprockets?

I'm guessing the excitement about these may be for the 520 sizes? So you get the same width at the spline as the stock 525? I just noticed Rowie's DR is the early model, so I looked up the JT sprockets for them and found the 520 with the 7.2mm width specified. (part number JTF437.xx)

So I guess the lesson learned is that in the 520 sprockets, you have to be careful to order the JTF1448 instead of the JTF437 so you will get 10mm width instead of the 7.2mm. And in the 525 sprockets there is no difference between DR650SE and DR750/800. Someone will please re-educate me if necessary!

And the moral of the story is do your research BEFORE you hit the Buy-It-Now button!

And, I still give a "THANK YOU" to Rowie for sharing this information. It's my own fault for not doing my homework before making the purchase.

.
That was my understanding.
525 is the same.
Some believe there is a slight benefit with the wider splines for those that want to run a 520 chain.
Probably not going to make much difference one way or the other. Kind of like the debate of clip vs retainer plate and the whole alignment thing.
I try to keep it simple and just run a stock 525.

Thanks for the follow-up and clarification.

folks are slacking when I had to go to page 2 in order to find the DR650 thread....

Here's the powerpoint attachment I mentioned previously that allowed me to recharge my battery off the 7way trailer connector.

all my bikes have a battery tender pigtail that matches the two prong plug on this gizmo. removing the battery and stretching the rubber insulators on the spade connectors allowed me to hold the wire ends against the terminals of the trailer connector. 45minutes to take a stone dead battery and be able to crank the bike.

I just got back from a 3000 mile contintental divide ride. The dr 650 amazes me. New chain and sprockets and new rear tire before leaving. never had to touch or adjust anything the entire ride. 1000 feet above sea level here and rode over some 10000 ft passes there, bike never sputtered. Bought a seat concepts seat before leaving and well worth the investment. I bought a pumper carb before leaving but decided not to install it until I got back, Never like to make major changes before any trips. OMG I could not believe the difference. I dont understand why suzuki doesnt make this carb stock. Anyway little over 12000 miles on her and never ran better.

My Seat Concepts seat is on it's way. I got a tracking number. It will be here Friday.

WOO HOO! It is the new 1 inch taller version, maybe the first one made by Seat Concepts. Hope they put serial#1 on it.

Pictures and report are forthcoming.

Then I have a 1000 mile trip in Sept that I will rate it. Been riding on the stock seat since 2005, but never so many miles in a week.

Check your rear mounting points for proper adjustment. This DR took a good rock hit on our ride and punched the screw through the case. Fortunately we were close to a truck pick up point. I'm going to explore drilling on the part protruding on the outside of the frame and switch the mount around. Other DR's on the ride have had zero problems so maybe it was not mounted/adjusted with the most clearance.....don't know.

Anyway, just passing on hopefully helpful stuff. This could've been a problem.

Pro Cycle Top End Performance Kit ?

Is anyone running the Pro Cycle high compression piston and stage 2 cam? If so, how do you like it? I'm considering it for more power at highway speeds, staying with stock carb and muffler. Thanks for info. L D

I would think that those mods won't do a lot with the stock carb and pipe. Fuel has to get in and burnt gasses need to leave. Especially at highway speeds - there is a lot going through the engine under that load and the stock set up restricts the engine as it is.

yep, happened to me too. Didn't punch all the way through and was able to patch with JB Weld. Would have been much worse if the plate wasn't there.

The stock carb can handle it just fine if the airbox is opened up and carb is jetted to suit. By retaining the stock exhaust it will still get a boost but it will not let the engine mods work to their full potential.

How does this happen?

Shock socks are on which mean the tubes had to come off to remove the dirt collectors (accordions) . I found some no name neoprene seals underneath probably put there by Cogent or the PO.

My deadline is Septermber 8.

wondering if you'll get more bang for the buck upgrading the carb and muffler 1st.
