$300 with a Werner paddle, seems good to me. It will get me started to see if I want to upgrade to a newer kayak.

I was wondering where you were finding your deals then I stumbled across this...

Did you buy it yet...

Where have you been going to practice?

Glad this thread is still alive.

I'm now the proud owner of this Mako XT surf ski. Picked it up on Sunday from the importer (Venture Sport, Inc) in Boca Raton, along with a carbon fiber racing paddle:

Specifications:

Length - 19'-1"
Width at widest point - 19"
Weight - 35 lbs

I still have lots to learn when it comes to keeping this thing upright in anything but calm waters, but according to my GPS:

Fastest sustained speed: 6.4 mph
Fastest speed: 9.0 mph

Just as a point of reference, the fastest published sprint speed I've seen on the Mako XT is 9.4 mph over a 250 meter distance.

Hey now, no bidding against me.

I finally spoke with the seller and I will be looking at it tonight or in the morning.

Locally I have just been using my sea kayak, so mostly flat water, parts of the Hooch, the lake at Stone Mountain Park and up on Lake Burton.

I want to pick up the ww kayak to take on river sections that I don't want to beat up my sea kayak on.

I knew I was going fast, but I wouldn't have guessed 9mph if I hadn't seen it on my GPS. I tried to photograph the readout to post it here, but it came out way too blurry. I guess my digicam's focal length is just too long. I'll see if I can get a shot from a greater distance and then zoom in on the image to make it legible.

That is very cool. I hope to get to that area to paddle someday soon.

I'm not in the market for a WW rig... I'm looking for something to cut out across Carters Lake, Allatoona, Lanier, etc. with hopes that someday I'd explore the coast of Georgia.
