Anybody have any experience taking a kayak on a multi-lake/multi-portage (flatwater) type route? Say like you'd find in Boundary Waters/Quetico or Algonquin Park. The low wind profile of the kayak and easier paddling (at least for me) makes it attractive over a canoe but I haven't heard many postiive comments about portaging one.

Dude, that's Ocean Kayak's latest model.
The Travel Yak. Its like those sponges you buy that are all compacted, but when you drop them in the water they swell up. Same theory. ![]() Behind the car is one I accidentally spilled water on before I left. |

Nice boat, k7. I heard the guy that started Long Haul was Klepper's main repairman for the U.S.
Here I am headed back into Metlakatla on Annette Island (Alaska's only Reservation) near Ketchikan in Southeast AK. On this trip I took my kevlar Dagger Meridian SKS. Good times. ![]() Lookin out away from town with kids waiting on the dock for an innertube/powerboat ride.

This is a great picture - couple of guys in the Artic who were resecued a few miles from their destination but had to leave the Mark I behind. Later, they found it with the help of the locals but had to dig it out of the ice. There was no damage: Full story here Gail Ferris is pretty supportive of Mark's kayaks. Here, she talks about her transition from Klepper to Long Haul and mentions Dieter Stiller who sold kayaks in NYC. |

Long Haul's have a great reputation- you're headed in the right direction with that one!~ Keep us posted. I found some 100 lb tarpon laid up today- maybe I'll go back tomorrow in the Nautiraid and get DoG's own "Nantucket Sleigh ride"!!!
Just a rudder and a rod is all I'll need for a tour of the whole damned river.

I'd like to tee up Bill the Duck or Diezel for an honest-to-goodness trip next fall or winter (Baja?) and then in 2009, maybe a trip on the Paraguay River in western Brazil. I've alluded to a much larger trip in 2010 but haven't added as specifics yet - too much risk of backing down at this point but so far, it's full steam ahead. I'd also like to start making some paddles - as a ex-long distance touring cyclist, the Greenland paddles seem to make so much sense on so many levels and fortunately, they also appear to be fairly simple to make. I've received some good advice from another advrider already - but am always open to more. I've seen some of your other posts and it's obivious you know a lot about kayaks. |

Nah- I'm a weenie. My bro, "Gringo" here on ADV, is the real expert. I just sponge off of his experience. He's built some amazing strip wood boats- including a gorgeous canoe for me, as well as several paddles that would qualify as art in anybody's book. He has spent years paddling in Brazil~ The amazon basin and the tapagos~ Send him a PM and he'll give you all the info you need on either topic. He lived in Belem for many years- and has traveled the whole country at this point. Ain't ADV great!?
