"The day the dirt drove Tbone down"....

" and his wheels were spinning"

"The day the dirt drove T-bone down "...
"and out the duct tape was coming"

wow....where to start...thank you to....Everybody. From God,to my still functioning liver, there is so much to be happy for...

The ride started out great. I had ridden with Steverino before, but the rest (5) of the guys I had never seen before. I should have known I was screwed when KV comes up to me and says " boy, that sure is an awful nice bike to take on THIS ride"....

I'm thinking, how bad can it be if I run my own pace and slow down when I get uncomfortable ...so off we go. I have never had the GS off-road, so was a weeeeeeeeeee bit hesitant at first. Started getting more comfortable..spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin...turn...spiiiiii iiiiiiin ..turn...and so on. As I was transitioning from dirt to asphalt the second time, all hell broke loose...

As I was transitiong from asphalt to dirt, I thought I was safely onto the tarmac. It was a failrly steep incline, but nothing extreme that I thought would warrant any unusual braking. I hit the brakes, not hard, just enough to slow down...and BANG

I'm sliding...I mean no warning..the first thought in my head..'This isn't suppose to happen to ME !!!"..been a dozen years since the last lowside, and i thought my streak was safe and sound...wrong. The dirt for the road had been drug out onto the concrete..

so I was effectively still on the dirt, only worse it was wet and heading down hill..so I get up , and the first thing I do is check my face, as it was burning and I thought the road had ground on it ( I know, some would say it wouldn't be noticeable if it had ), but it seems when i smacked down on the chinbar. it collapsed at the pivot points (KBC FFR model for those who want to avoid it... )

and had given me a little rug burn as the foam on the inside of the chin bar rubbed me. The bike survived mostly intact, except the prementioned fuel line. Without the help of NCbub, his lovely wife, and the back hills engineering of Steverino, I would still be up on the mountain, doing what a fella has to do to survive...

So the moral of the story...dress right with the best gear you can find. I landed hard on my elbow, and the Aerostitch took like a champ Kinda suprised I didn't bust my collarbone, but my shoulder felt the brunt of the blow.
I love flip-up helmets...some might say the KBC was cheap, it wasn't any worse than any other..If I had been in a situation where I hadn't rolled after the initial impact..not being able to get my head out of the pavement with a collapsed chinbar would have been catostrophic...so back to a full face again it seems..

Everyone was great about my accident as I felt badly for ruining the ride, and i'm proud to have you all as friends and fellow riders.

oh yea, I had to take the day off of work just to get the mud off my bike yesterday..this "dirt" thing sure can be messy...

and I'm painting it another color as yellow apears to be the prime color of the "crash club"...

I just realised my name change and it finally fits....

Tbone, Michelle's glad you're ok. She was ready to jump in the truck and come rescue you.
Hell, if she was coming I would have milked it for sure...

Hey Cbiffer...

I have not looked at the repair manual for your bike yet, but I will and let you know what the prognosis is for repair. Trying to catch up at work and going for the occupancy cert today so I am hopping...I will be in touch soon about it.

JFR glad you made it home safe, thanks for filling in the gaps in the report. Get that beauty fixed back up.

TBone thanks for adding to this as well. My guess is Steves repair will last longer then the factory setup.

All in all it was a great ride. We left with 7 and we returned with 7. Thats a damn fine day in any ones book.

My buddy was going to buy one of those until I pointed out what is printed on the chinbar - something about it not giving any protection - it's there to hold the faceshield
