Here is my recent acquisition. A 1987 650. I got it pretty cheap from a friend of mine for helping him with an old Goldwing. It sat for a couple of years and was not running. I have now got it running OK and really like it. I still have a few issues to work out. Does anybody have any idea how many were produced/imported into the USA. Here is a pic. Why the guy painted the white an olive drab is beyound me??????

Hey there, just saw this. No, I never got hold of Moro, despite trying for weeks. Just can't get through on the phone. Found my parts elsewhere, happily.

For those of you who are interested in using a K&N airfilter in your E-900, you can get one from any auto-parts store. K&N part #NR33-2682.

Fuel Petcock?

I need a left side fuel petcock for my 1986 Elefant. After disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly, it drips continuously. Any idea what the threads (male on bottom of tank) are that the petcock assembly threads to so I can look at a relacement system?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Dave

Yes, I would be interested in that exhaust. Is it homemade or was it some kind of production item? I assume it's just a muffler, not headpipes as well?

In 1994 my wife and I were living in Argentina, building an orphanage. I received RIDER magazine (most of the time), which was about the only thing I got to read in English. I must have read Rider’s test report on the “Ducati” E-900 ten times. In 1999 we were back in the US and traveling most of the East Coast visiting our supporters and searching for an E-900.

Every city we passed through—I found a phone book and called every motorcycle dealer asking for the elusive Ducati that Ducati never built—while a friend placed a want-add on the Internet. While in Chicago I got an E-mail stating that a BMW dealership in Northern Arkansas had a used one with 11,000 miles, but his asking price was kind of high. Nevertheless we would be passing through that city on our way back to Oklahoma. When I called and questioned his price, he informed me that the bike did not have 11,000 miles, but only 1,100 Kilometers.

Three days later we were there and after convincing him that I could indeed ride a motorcycle, and leaving my wife and kid as collateral, I was on a test ride. That was all it took—with its super smooth motor, stout suspension, great handling—it was one of the finest bikes I’d ever ridden. And the bike was like showroom new. However, when we got home I discovered that a good friend had a like new 1994 BMW GS 1000 for sale. I concluded that the BMW would be a wiser buy and bought it.

On the way home with the BMW, I realized that I had made a mistake. The mistake was to ride the Ducati first! I rode the GS straight to where my buddy worked—the Post Office—and hoped he would not go postal on me as I explained my dilemma. He smiled and handed my check back to me, and I rode “his” BMW back to his garage. Next morning I hitched a ride to Bentonville, AR. Fortunately—Bentonville is in the mountains—and it’s mountains all the way home.

Riding the Elefante home that day was like—well—like having sex for the first time—just like I dreamed it would be. We’ve been to the Unadilla AMA motocross, Daytona Speed Week, toured Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Kentucky and much more. When I got my KTM I sold her, but recently I got it back. I’m now doing a major tune-up and I’ll post pictures on the Elefante Technical site as I go. The going will be slow as I’m recovering from a major rotator cuff repair, so I’m working mostly left-handed.

Really? I hope you mean $2,500 and not $25,000.

How about my friends Elefant? '94 I believe in awesome shape. He bought in Durango and rode it home over as much dirt as he could find it sounded like .

Anyway, the bike is sweet and handles the roads and trails around here beautifully although he says the suspension runs out of travel quickly...

Elefants seem to like the mud and water

A final stop at the car, er, moto wash and a smile from the owner . Nice work getting that beast muddy.
