HAS to have come with the EPA sticker from the MFG to be eligable for transfer into CA now. The ONLY way to have an XR-R (or any other) with a plate in CA is to buy one that already had a CA plate before Feb 1, 2004.

Unfortunately, that's exactly right. Forgot to mention it.

Fact! That's why I paid $4000 for a plated, no problems with the papers, ratted-out 2000 model.
It had a bigger tank and a steering damper, so it wasn't that bad.

Don't play around in Cali. There are always plated ones on craigslist.

Rad Cap

Can anyone suggest an over the counter sub for an aftermarket 1.6 cap and a drop in thermostat for the XR650R? Thanks

Hey backdrifter. I didn't get his name, but I believe he did the commentary and appears towards the end of the film talking to Mouse. We were busy 'decompressing' and taste testing Pacifico's...

Thermo - NAPA part #115. You will have to drill a small hole in the same location as the stock thermo.

As for the cap I'm not sure...Mine already had the upgrade. Someone will chime in soon I'm sure. In fact I think there is a post on these same questions with pics.

Thanks! I'd been wondering about that. I've replaced the thermostat, but hadn't seen a part number anywhere for the higher-pressure cap and didn't want to pay what XR's is asking.

This is probably a stupid question but what does the 1.6 stand for on the radiator cap? XR's Only is 1.6 and Kawi is 1.8, does that mean 16 and 18 pounds of pressure. The local auto parts stores have 16 pound of pressure caps that will fit but nothing even close to 1.6. I know the Fluidynes use a 16 pound pressure cap but not sure if I should use it for my stockers. Anyone use the 16 pound pressure cap in their stock radiators? The only reason I ask is XR's wants about 5 times more money for basically the same thing.

2000 XR650R Aussie style

This BRP was punted around for the first 7 years as a trail bike. Was a bit big for first bike back after 15years off bikes (scratches) . Decided to dual sport the big girl in April this year.

25 litre Safari Tank Acerbis CE headlamp, Acerbis hand guards
Dunlop 605's
Pivot Pegz (bloody awesome), Seat widened and softened.
Eagle Screen, Wolfman enduro tank bag (brill!), Ballards rack also a 12V power outlet. 15/41 gearing, Renthal hangers raised 20mm, Home made panner racks.
Engine is de-restricted but generally stock

Still to do 280mm oversize front brake, 45 tooth rear (41 too lazy) & maybe a pipe.
