a quickie lesson in x-lace wheel tightening

As far as I can tell, the run out ???(wobble) is almost completely true on each wheel - certainly less than 1mm.

P.S. - Have I missed a 'guide' on how to check your spokes and what to do if you find a dodgy/broken one???
hi..you need a 5mm allen or t-40 torx bit depending on early or late vintage wheels...plus a 2mm allen wrench for the grub/set screws inside your nipples

1,,,locate the dead ones

2,,notice if it is going clockwise or ccw

3,,use the allen or torx bit and loosen nipple 1/2 turn ccw,, i do this to take pressure off the lil set screw

4,,use 2mm allen to unscrew the grub-screw several turns

5,,tightn the nipple slowly so that it sounds the same as the spokes to the left and right of it that are going in the same direction,,,

6,, stop when they have the same pitch

7,,tighten the grub-screw to 2Nm,,ie snug it up

8,,repeat process on the other loose ones

9,,this same technique can be used in replacing a broken spoke

10,,,DO ONLY ONE SPOKE AT A TIME!!!!,,or else,,well i won't go there

'nuff said

17" supermoto wheels for BMW XChallenge

Hi Woody,

I'm considering a set of 17" supermoto wheels for my XChallenge (in black). Basically, something very much like this: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...&postcount=806

How much would that be (with all your hardware, including hubs, + distanza tires)?

Dmitri

G650X wheels

Woody,

I'm looking to get the rims on my G650X fixed/replaced.

I need pricing and delivery on 2 options:
1. Rebuilding my wheels with upgraded rims & spokes.
2. Purchasing a complete set, sans brake rotors.

Thanks,
Tim

I think you answered my question in another post, but I meant you supply the rims, hub (oem, right?), sprocket, etc, sans brake discs.

Basically I want a second set of wheels except for brake rotors (and keep the stock ones for dirt).

Props to Woody's Wheel Works

Woody,

I was so impressed with how quickly you got my wheel back to me. I shipped it to you on a Thursday and it was back on my bike on the following Tuesday. You did exactly as I had indicated and everything looks and works great. You took care of the rotors and braking is as smooth as butter, but stops a lot faster. Before being shipped overseas, I took it out for a spin and it is nice to run very high speeds without the flat spots and wobbles again. Thanks for all of the professionalism with you, your staff and the entire shop. These days, it is hard to find such great service. I will never hesitate to send you my wheels again and will always recommend your shop to anyone. Thanks a ton!

Hey Woody, I'm curious if any race teems are using your wheels and who they are. Mostly for my own curiosity, but I also have a friend who is a non believer of anything he isn't familiar with.

well,,most recently Team Max BMW won last years Sand blast Rallye Moto 1st &2nd place in the mega class using my Superlite/Superlace set up..ran all season without touching the wheels....last check revealed no loose spokes and amazingly still straight and true to boot!!

Chris Jones ran and finished the previous years Paris Dakar on just 2 wheel sets, swapping rubber at days end,,came to the shop with 10 wheel sets to be superlaced...talked him into trying 2 sets with my cush drive set-up[ one rear using oem KTM SM hub assy and the other with the first billet prototype]..again never touched the wheels...and NO Problems with transmission or chain stretch!!!

M3 -Racing and lot's of the AHRMA vintage racers have won championships on the Superlaced set-ups i make for them...

Team Eye-Ball Engineering not only won the AHRMA 350 GP class for the first time evr on a highly modified 305 Honda Superhawk,,but then went on to Japan's 'Time tunnel world championship shootout at Tsukuba' to win the Super Vintage Senior class,,set a new track record with legendary David Roper doing the riding chores....that was a fun project and wonderful season...lot's of tall tales to tell someday

Team Spirit my own roadrace team has won more overall #1 plates and class championships in the rocky mountain region...'nuff said..

I have wall's full of pics and attaboys.....you ought to stop by sometime,,,it's been written up in Cycle News as being 'one of the better watering holes in the west'

my favorite racing team consists of my happy customers,,,they provide me a deeper quieter form of satisfaction,,,,

yours truly
woody
