Got a chance to meet Ernie at the swap meet. Very nice guy. Also be sure to talk to him about skid plate options. We talked about options he has for a full Remus system.

Reply to Val

Hi Val,
Sorry for the late reply. I started out making simple projects out of steel gas welding. I made a bakers rack for my kitchen many years ago that has an obscene amount of gas welds. I could have hand TIG'd a 747 for the amount of time I have in the rack, but it was great practice. I worked for a engineering firm for 17 years and was parts manger at a Yamaha dealership that pushed me into making bike parts. Now I have a full shop dedicated just to making bike accessories. Start small and keep it simple. Good welding take a lot of practice. Get a variety of material and practice the different styles. I weld steel, stainless, and aluminum on a daily basis and it keeps me sharp. Shoot me a e-mail if I can help you out.
Good luck. Ernie

Sent email

Hey Ernie, I sent an email with the more long-winded description, ha. Just a heads- up so you know if it gets lost in cyberspace.

My Sherpa already has a skid plate, but that would be a beautiful project too. (Refer to the long-winded version for my skill limitations.)

Gr3

Just returned from the GR3 Rally in Soldiers Grove WI. Had a great time as usual and just wanted to thank the Madison BMW club for doing a great job with the rally and also to thank all the good people that made a purchase from my vending booth. I'll be at the RA rally coming up in Wisconsin and look forward to meeting a few more inmates. 2HE

What's the easiest way to get in touch with Ernie? Anyone ordered a skidplate lately and can give me some prices. Looks like a great product and I would like to compare to Black Dog Cycle works. Thanks

Ernie,
Got my skid plate(s) on. (Including the one on the center stand.)
They look great, were a perfect fit.
I will have to see how they do on the gravel etc..

Thanks,
Jeff

extra tall lip

I managed to get in touch with Ernie. Anyone got photos of the extra tall lip optional skidplate he produces? Once again I am trying to compare to the Black Dog Cycle skidplate. Thanks

skidplates

Hi Guys,
I'm back. I was at a dual sport rally out in the Black Hills with a group of ADV inmates. We had a great time and put on close to 2K in four days. It was a very beautiful area and just about had to take a day off to recover from my vacation. Special thanks to Hipster for inviting me along for the ride. Also thanks to Dan for taking us on some trails that only a local would have found or known about. Back to work. 2HE

Got the plate, Ernie. Very happy. Easy install. Fit is perfect. It's a good thing, too. On my way home yesterday from a primarily street ride I was crossing my own rocky spillway and my front tire kicked up a good size rock that clanged against the front of the Remus header-sized skidplate. Had I had the stocker on it might not have protected the Big Ugly (my GS Adventure).

As to the skidplate: Massive. Thick. Well-built. Well-designed. Impressive. Well-worth the price 2HE charges. Oh, yeah. Bad-ass looking. ;) I cannot imagine being happier with any other plate for even twice the price. If someone is sitting on the fence, just buy it. It's that good. I'll add a pic later.
