Hello Pyndon: Greetings from Asia. Just wanted to say thanks a lot for your detailed write up on rebuilding a KTM water pump. Just took it apart last night. It was your terrific how to write up that gave me the courage to do it. My bike had been using water for a while, but a very small amount. I kept thinking it was a leak that I could not find. The oil never showed water in it. I have a feeling now that with a small leak the heat of the oil will simply evaporate it out, and not show any emulsification in the oil. The seal was clearly bad when I took it out, shaft was very worn.
On a side note, both my brother and I had KTM 950s here in Thailand. Within about two months, both of the oil sending units failed. Not electrically , but the physical unit itself. A fair amount of oil came out between the steel base of the sending unit, and the plastic insert. That would make for a 100 % failure rate of Thailand based KTM 950s. This would lead me to believe it is a common problem, ie the KTM factory used a poor supplier. I replaced it with a high quality Honda car unit which worked perfectly. Again thanks for the time you spend to write up your work projects.

Just been out for it's maiden voyage in the UK tonight and I have to say, it's awesome to be back out on the 950, I love that bike!!

Now, I gotta get on with the paperwork and all that other bull shit that UK regulations require, SVA, MoT, Customs Dec, Road Tax, Insurance, Log-Book, Registration Plate etc etc.
