I'm too lazy to go back 2 or 3 pages to figure out just what you two are fighting about...

Shimano vs Campy ?

Shave yes or no?

Whole leg or just half?

Have a beer. Chill the fuck out

Front derailuers are a pita!

I was just finishing up reshiming my front deraileur, a Shimano XT triple on my touring bike. The cage was slipping on the seat tube. All was well until I wanted to make that tiny last adjustment to make it perfect then it all got cocked up. I was up til midnight trying to get it to shift to the largest ring.

Check my method:
Set the height of the detraileur to about 1-2mm above the largest ring.
Put the chain on the smallest front ring and smallest rear cog.
Removed slack from cable.
Tightened bolts and set H-L adjustment stops.

Seems simple but the inside of the cage rubs the middle front ring when it shifts to the largest cog.

Driving me nuts.

You may not be aligned correctly. Try unclamping the derailure from the seatpost a little and turning it fore or aft to get rid of the rub...then you have to start the whole process over.

i asked him about that once... said he was wearing one of the light modern ones, took a minor spill, the helmet cracked, he couldn't wear it for the next heat, and was DNS the rest of the day. the BMX helmets can take a whack and still be ridable.

Nice! I can't believe someone didn't have a helmet for him to wear that day but I love his solution.

CX is all about non conformance. Wearing a BMX helmet is high style, IMHO.
