![]() Me? I like STI. I LIKE having the shifting RIGHT THERE where I need it. I had the opportunity to go retro on my A-1 and chose not to. I lived thru those days and don't care to go back. ![]() I've got some pics on the camera. I'll download em later and post up the 'new' rain/trainer bike. M

So I've decided to break down and buy a trainer. Love my rollers but the only place I can use them is in the porch and right now, it's too goddam cold for me (issues with heat/cold cycles....pardon the pun) and I have nowhere to use one indoors - I will be able to use a trainer though.
So....what's the best one I can buy for say 200 bucks ? Anybody have one they have gathering dust they want to part with ? Noise is not really an issue since I will do this with only me in the house.

Right now, I personally have an older Cateye Psychostimulator aka Cyclosimulator. Great trainer, but don't fit yer criteria for quiet. HTH M

Winter Ride on the River Trail
We took off from my house in the morning shill at about 9. I think it was still about 50 or so.
There was no plan other than to take it easy. I had not been on the bike in about a month, so this was to be a leisurely pace to the Pond, then Starbucks and turn for home. Paul had brought the Black N Tan to show off and get a few more saddle break-in miles logged. ![]() That bike is looking real nice for commuting. Train rides and bike locking. Schlepping all the stuff a guy has to have each day for work. ![]() Porn, ![]() As we rode on past the Orange Fire Departments training facility they had a snorkel up and running. ![]() As you can see by the threatening skies we were under pressure to get this ride over before the storm blew in. By the time we got to the turn around at Huntington Beach the skies were definitely looking ominous. We'd better start looking for a place to hole up for a while. ![]() ![]() We somehow battled our way back to Starbucks, braving a light tail wind and quite a bit of bike trail traffic. ![]() Wanting to keep a close eye on the bikes we braved the elements and sat outside. Before long it was time to hit the trail... ... or risk sunburn. ![]() ![]() We arrived in time to catch the end of the lunchtime rush. Must have been 3 cars through the drive -thru. Typical awful winter day in the OC. It was horrible. I don't know how we survived. Must have been 67 or something. ![]() Almost 6 hours of leisurely riding and nothing to show for it but a few sore muscles today. 55.5 miles or so. A good day back in the saddle.

Force = best bang for the bux, but I still want some Red bits. I think if I hadta pick: Red rear der. Rival shifters, Force front der, Force brakes, an Red cranks. ...but what'll prolly happen is I'll start that way and it'll migrate to all Red over time. Seems to be my M.O.Just got in from 2:28 on the bike. Rode 20min of tempo into the wind. The remaining ride = way easy comparatively. It feels good to go fast again. I haven't been in a while now.M

Don't lick the seat post when it's that cold.
![]() I'd be inside by the fire, bundles up with hot coffee and soup. ![]()

I won't lick the seat post
for a variety of reasons. One being that it is a Walmart bike and I don't want to get lead poisoning
Perfect use for a Walmart bike. Ride in the snow and crud that is on the road right now.The winters are looooong here and you have to make do with what ya get. A real ride beats the exercise bike any day. |
