Sorry to hear that. Man, I grew up in Colorado, and of course sunscreen only came out by the time I was late 30's. Lots of my northern European day-glow skin was burned off me in my youth.
I use SPF 50 prior to going out and its stuff that just doesn't wash off easily and never sweats off.
Take care man,

So, my advice for all of you, my cycling brethren, is to make damn sure you are putting sunscreen on your exposed skin bits if outside more than an hour and don't forget to re-apply if more than a few hours exposed. Skin grafts and surgery sucks, I don't care who you are. It sucks even worse at 36 years of age. Ride safe hermanos!

Sounds like a good weekend.
I've been off the bike for about two weeks now. A combination of work, short days, a sinus infection and weather have conspired against me. I may be forced into the gym if this persists.

Sat was the VCU cross race in Richmond. Grassy course that while it looked fast, wasn't really. Had a great start but then got pinched off into the tape and ended up losing a dozen or so spots. Made em up and only 1 guy passed me, but I can't help but think 'what if...'

Sun was the UVA cross race in Earlysville. On a private farm with some more grass. This one was more wide-open and went thru a pasture. Two decent-sized hills. Ugh. First one was very rideable the second was rideable IF you could maintain traction. I made it every other lap (there were 4) only because of many years of mtn biking under my belt. Legs felt like crap on Sunday. I was doing OK at the start and got top 5 or so into the first 180deg turn. My teammate ran into my rear wheel and lost lots of places. Big dummy! I was doing OK till I got to the bottom of the first big hill and turned left. Everyone behind me freight-trained me cause I didn't have the oomph to go up the hill at race pace. I only caught one guy, but I had to work to get him. FINALLY got passed him only to have him breathing down my neck for half a lap. Gapped him on the uphill () and held on to stay ahead of him by 50m or so at the line.

My legs feel the weekend. How is it that 30min of racing each day feels worse than 3 hours of riding?

Things to work on: tempo and over-unders

M

*field of 23 on Sat and 11 on Sun

I really gotta stay out of the bike shop. Did a 40miler to my favorite shop and a Salsa Vaya came really close to following me home. I was offered a smoking deal too, must be strong. . .

I wish one of the shops around here would stock at least some of Salsa's product. Closest "dealer" is 100 miles away and they don't keep/order many. I have a weakness for orange, too.

4:11 on the bike today. Ugh am I tired.

Buddy of mine is in town from southern France where he's a Cat 1. What we did today was a little toodle by his standards, but a decent ride for the rest of us.

I've got a front Chris King in 28h, but it is green. The matching rear is 135mm 32 h, unfortunately.

They were the first things to go in the bin on my cx bike.

Just got in from about an hour exactly of riding. Warmed up 15min, did a set of pyramid intervals 1on/off thru 4 on/off and back down, then cooled down.

Traded a buddy my Turbomatic 4 for his Romin. Romin's mo bettah. Who's got a black one they wanna trade out something for?

The only problem with the saddle compared to the Turbomatic is that it isn't built the same. My measurements don't work. Hafta 'feel' it. I *think* its a cm shorter front to back so I just moved it back on the seatpost about that much. We'll see tomorrow.

When I worked in prosthetics, I had the privilege once of fitting Scott Rigsby, the first double amputee to finish an iron man.Yes, he had special leg attachments to allow him to clip in & out.
