Gore Tex socks are somewhat breathable and LOTs more expensive. ...and highly recommended for mtn biking.

I ever tell y'all the 'ice covered mud puddle' story? If I haven't, the short short version is 'Gore Tex socks rawk.'

Thanks Yeti. Note to self: store Saran Wrap in back of car with mtb shoes, helmet, and gloves.

Nah, just cram Wal-Mart bags in a corner. That's what I use.

That crinkling sound will drive me nuts. Leaves caught betwixt the tires and frame are bad enough.

Right before the loops round the ponds.

Water was from the bike washing station set up by the Wicked Wash guys.

Went mtn biking at CAMBO today. Didn't particularly feel like going, but my buddy guilt-tripped me into it. It was ~45 and blustery, so road was pretty much right out.

Actually had a pretty good ride considering how I was feeling when we left his house (in the car). First few hills kicked my rear end, but then again, the first few hills ALWAYS kick my rear end. (and the next one, and the next one... in short, they ALL kick my rear end)

7-ish miles of looping about in the woods.

Got to thinking about DS and/or 29ers watching my buddy on the DS Epic 29er riding away from me on all the little 1" dia or smaller roots that jolted me around. One the one hand, I don't ride the mtn bike often enough to justify the $. On the other, a little equipment help would make up for my lack of mtn biking... . We'll see what the new year brings.

Cross coming on at 0900 east coast time

Yesterday's race was a complete mud-fest with a surprise ending. What's gonna happen today?!

Humph. That's why people invented knobbies!

No riding for me today. Rode mtn bike at CAMBO yesterday, then hared the hash today. Little bit of running. Lots of walking. Everyone had a good time in the woods.

That's what its all about. People having a good time.

My plan for the families short holiday to the desert was to haul my bicycle along. My first indication that this was likely not going to work was my early morning errand run with the rack in place.
Yow! hideous noise, I was not about to want to deal with for the hours it was going to take to get over the river and through the desert to Grandmother house. Then when I got back to the house on the hill to ind the front hall filled with what I figured was a good bit more than I figured would fit in the car. I eliminated the biking gear, rack, and tools which as it turned out would never have fit. Ah, well. Maybe I'll get a run or two and a hike?
When I get back home I'll give the bike a wash and hit some seat time. Then truck the beast to Phoenix.
The new hotel and I will fit the bike in much easier. Heck I even found my lights.

My legs hated me this AM. Between mtn biking Sat, hashing/running yesterday, and UW Hockey. they really protested being part of this union this AM.

...so I said 'eff you! I'm going for a ride before the weather gets here.' I got about halfway thru the ride when it started snowing on me. Much mo bettah than raining on me!

Legs feel better now.

Got in 9.8 miles of single track yesterday in the fog. Almost got taken out by a downed tree across the trail in a blind corner. Screeched to a halt, bumped into it, and hiss... burped the front tire. Pumped it up and spent the next 20 minutes muscling the tree out of the way, since it was in a very dangerous spot. The best part of the ride was I stayed in front of little brother and dropped him a few times. That has never happened before as he is quite the accomplished racer. Goal accomplished.
