That presta/valve cap trick is pure genius.

I liked that valve cap trick. Very cool.

Kicked some Strava butt this morning on my road bike.

The last time I was out there, I was just 4 seconds short of beating the all time woman's record holder in the final 3 mile sprint. This time I took the advice of a veteran road racer, and rode the whole distance with my hands down in the drops. I also removed the handlebar mounted mirror for even better aerodynamics. I didn't feel any faster, so I wasn't expecting a particularly good showing when I uploaded the run. But to my surprise, I not only beat the QOM by a whopping 37 seconds, but was moved up to 17th place out of 292 riders.

Awesome.
I'm looking forward to getting out on the road next week. New battery in my antique computer so not only Strava will be keeping tabs.

EDIT: Still searching for a cross bike; I've put together a list (if I could find it!) of online retailers who have 64-66cm frames for us gorillas, but without sitting on them, it would be a shot in the dark. My father, coincidentally, just got a screaming deal on a 61CM Tricross. Next weekend I'm gonna put some miles on it and see how it sizes up... I'd love to be able to buy a 61cm and make it fit, but just won't know if's worth it til I put some miles on one.

Just rode my Full Tilt Boogie with 'aero' wheels on it for a sprint workout. Won about half of em against my riding buddy. 'Course, when one of you knows where the town/county lines are better than the other, its not *quite* fair sometimes.

He managed to get me by half a wheel at the final town line sprint. I was in a gear one cog too big. He picked right. Oh well. Next time!

Tomorrow: 3ish hrs on the road bike
Sun: 4hrs or so on the cross bike on a mixed surface ride. Same ride as last Sun actually, just with 2 more guys in the group.

We just got back from the annual birthday ride. 58 miles in a wind gust filled ride. At times I thought I was stopped completely. Lots of fun, and cold beer topped it off!
