Dura 10 is nice stuff, it doesn't however work and play well with others. CAN you MAKE something else work? yep. Is it worth the time / hassle? Nope. Call some LBS and tell them what you are looking for. You might get lucky and find what you need.. and you do know what you need, right? Just buy the Dura 10 double shifter and be done with it.

I hope you have a Fox or equivalent shock pump. Those things need like 160 to 220 PSI depending on riders weight and desired 'spring rate'. Don't even THINK of trying to use a regular bicycle pump or compressor.

its a little tiny pump with a pressure release valve and a 300psi air gauge.

got it! A new one came with the fork. It's everything else that I don't have. Headset press, BB tools, cable cutters...etc.

I have a multi-tool!

right now I'm struggling to get the first bead of my Nevegal front tire on the DT rims, WTF. If the first bead is hard how bad is the second bead gonna be?

yeah, those things really are supposed to be dealer setup.

just make sure as much of the bead is in the 'trench' in the middle of the rim as possible before spooning the last part over the top. if any of it hangs up on the 'step', its muchos harder to get the last bit over.

The funny thing is as I get older I realize that good is good, and over the top is a waste of time-n-dough. Ya, I can smoke a lot of kids becuase I ride a shit load of miles each year, but the scenery is much more intersting as I get older.

Are those UST wheels? My tire changes are <3 minutes with tubes so you shouldn't have any problems....pump that bitch up to ~60psi to seat the bead. If you change motorcycle tires, bike tires are a dream to deal with

FWI hear on roadbikereview.com, DA 10 plays very well with DA 9. I haven't tried it, so cannot confirm nor deny.

Ski season is definitely gasping it's last few breaths right now. And that's OK, I'm busy lusting over bicycles. I think I've given up on trying to do it all with a single bike. We have a lot of cool mountain bike races around here (with clydesdale classes, even!) and it'd be a shame not to at least give it a try. Besides, maybe now that I've dropped about 40 lbs, some of the stuff that gave me trouble in the past on a mountain bike might not be so much of an issue now.

I think I really want a hardtail cross country bike with hydraulic disc brakes. None of the bike shops have their bikes out yet, but shopping by specs I'm really liking the Trek 6500 and the Kona Clydesdale bikes. The Clydesdale bikes more so in case I decide to get stupid and try my hand at some of the goofy freeride stuff the crazy kids have put up in the woods.

Kona's have real funny frame geometry, short top tube and high handlebars. maybe that fits you, maybe that doesn't, but I sure didn't like it.

The Stumpjumper Comp meets your spec, hard tail, Fox RL 90mm fork, Avid juicy disks, DT spokes and rims, etc etc.... kinda pricy for a hardtail but its an up-spec bike...

We started the bike shopping for Erin yesterday. Bike prices have jumped in the last two years! The equivalent to my not quite two year old bike is now selling for a couple hundred more! Jeebus.

The bigger challenge is going to be finding a fit for my very inseam challenged wife. Lots of bikes aren't available for someone of her proportions at her size.
