There is no way you could get me to do that kind of riding in the street. Vehicles are way too big to ride across traffic and avoid every red light. Too easy to die.

THe off road stuff, I would probably never be able to do either, but some of the down hill stuff looks like fun.

It's a good thing that my "downtown" is about 5 blocks long with 2 stoplights. Put me in traffic, and I get super agressive. After a few weeks in NYC, I'd probably be trying to do stuff like that if I didn't die in the process.

Thankfully, by the time I get ramped up and ready to really go nuts around here, I'm back out in the sticks again on the two lane blacktop with no cars in sights.

I just came back from some of that type of riding on my 65 mile ride out of the city and back today. Luckily only about 20 of it was in the city, roads were horrendous though, thought I'd crack the CF frame..

Beautiful day though, lotsa crankers out today.

This summer in IL has been a new kind of hell, started off with great riding weather...logged a ton of miles, then it started to rain and rain and rain. Then it got hotter than the backside of hell, now I mean crazy, stupid, have a stroke or heart attack hot. Then came the pollen...off the charts mold/tree/grass pollen with particulate matter counts in the "dangerous to breathe" levels from an early harvest. I'm in the middle of by biggest asthma "episode" since I was eight years old, I'm on breathing treatments, three kinds of inhalers, steroids...

I miss my bike so much, I just want to go for a freaking ride!!!

Y'all could take a long week(end) and come visit CO... Aspens are changing, weather's great, etc. Just don't tell no one when you get back! Wouldn't want a mass exodus!

I actually told SWMBO today that I'm buying some cold weather riding gear and riding into winter...it's apparently the only season here that is "riding weather".

Do it

You will never get a cold; for some reason, is what I experienced riding in sub-freezing temps.

I've actually been out when it was 20deg with a 20mph wind BECAUSE I had a cold. Couldn't breathe, so I went for a toodle. Much mo bettah for at least a little while.

After that... again. But at least I felt better while I was riding!!

A buddy of mine up here in the UP is planning on riding his bike all winter.

If he actually follows through with it, there will be no excuses for you.

You couldn't ask for better riding weather than we had today, so we hit the trails. There was some sort of equestrian event going on today; Loads of horses out. But they stuck to the fire roads, and I had the singletrack to myself. It was a great ride; I cleared a lot of technical stuff that's been giving me grief.

And I noticed a sign on one of the bigger loops of trail -- it's open to bicycles year round. I've been thinking about building a singlespeed/fixed MTB for winter commuting and biking on icy/snowy trails. So I rode that loop of trail "singlespeed" -- picked a middling-low gear and didn't shift. Damn, that was a workout.
