UST Tubeless Wheels????

Do any of you bikeshop guys or people with first hand experience know if there are any issues with using a standard mtb tire & tube on a UST Tubeless rim???

Thanks,
Justin

So all this stage racing got me to thinking about the old days, and the Coors Classic.

I got hooked into working this race in 1981 as a motorcycle marshal. It was our job to catch dogs, clear the cow shit off the road, along with whatever died there, as well as keep the generally unsuspecting populace at bay.

We had a great time inventing our version of what we had seen bits on in coverage of the Tour De France. Coupled with a slight bit of how stuff might work. We spent a ton of our own money helping out, leaving at the end still being owed gas money. But, carrying priceless memories and a life long love of cycle racing. This even got a couple of aging semi-old farts off the porch and onto the seats of a succession of expensive Italian hand made bicycles...

Here is a shot of a legend and a very nice fellow,

Then to keep this a little in the realm of motorcycling,

Vail, 1982, or so...

F FITY F F F.

I tore my gastrocnemius last night coaching some high school volleyball girls. Now I am out for a few weeks of anything. The weather is supposed to be great for the next three days and I had plans of a good run and too long bike rides.

I hope to heal enough by the weekend to get back on the bike and rollers, since we are supposed to get snow again.

You're full of it. I want to see a video.

Seriously, that looks very cool. Never heard of them before. Might have to put my Kreitlers on CL, too.

So when are we going to ride?

I used to ride some cheap rollers, I got online way back in the day. They had plain bearisn in place of ball bearings. QUite the workout. I kept a high rpm cadence above 90, and usually about 100. I got so I could sit up no hands and take my shirt off, without crashing. Then I got bored and started with the TV.

Bad idea, watching a video tape of a mountian descent. Leaned into the corner with the tape...

Yep, straight off the rollers, across the basement and into the daybed.

Missed the TV though...

Gave those things away and took to riding in the snow. fewer crashes!

Tonight I get to test my fully upgraded old hardtail on the bike path.

I've replaced everything from the original bike save the seat post, pedals, frame and skewers.

Standard tire and tube should work. 85% sure.

Hey you're the filmaker, say when, I have a good tripod for you to film me on.... seriously.

I'm in Fort Lee now, right near route 9, excellent rides to Piermont/Nyack.

Or were you talking about motorcycle rides?

Perry,

If you like the mtn bike you have spring for a set of wheels with some straight block gears (14,15,16,17 etc) with a set of chain rings for the road being 52 39 it should work out that ea single gear change is really the next gear so that the 39/20 gear would be first and 39/14 would be 7th then the 52/20 would be 8th. I dont remember the brand but we used to get some 26x1.50 road tires in the shop for guys that were commuting on their mtn bikes. A quick wheel swap on Fri afternoon and it was off to trail ride for the weekend.

Its been a while since I worked in a shop but so I'm not upto date on all the new bikes that are out - good luck in your search

Thanks Teach, this thread was started almost 3 yrs ago so I'm long gone from the Mtn bike set up, appreciate the input though.

Got 3 road bikes now; 06 Cannondale Systm 6 Dura Ace, Raleigh CX with fender and rack job, and a Surley Steamroller fixed and all Brooks'd out...

cheers.
