Who was that out on Rte 2 heading east this afternoon on a GS (650-1200-couldn't tell) with a Seven strapped to the back? I was the guy in the red Jetta with the Duo on the roof, heading back from a rained out weekend at the Kingdom Trails. Looked like a cool set up!

Every 'cross season, one of my teammates threatens to get a full body skin suit. I always counter with the threat of a team mankini for our local triathlon. So far, we've both been sitting poised on the edge of armageddon, neither of us willing to pull the trigger.

Too bad about getting rained out at KT. Other the thunderstorm late today, it was nice in Boston this weekend. I got out to the Fells early in the afternoon, my first time there in like a month and my first MTB ride in a couple of weeks. It's depressing how quickly you lose cardio fitness...

I'm probably heading up to KT next weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

Whoa, this is random.

I was just looking around at some of the older posts in this thread, and happened to come across the post above and click through to the linked blog. I looked at some of the postings and realized: I met the woman who writes it, a few weeks ago. I was mountain biking near the Kokopelli Trailhead, just outside Fruita, Colorado. (The Kokopelli Trail is a 140 mile off-pavement route connecting Fruita to Moab.)

While I was grinding up a fire road to get to another loop of singletrack, I passed a woman on a blue Karate Monkey, heavily loaded with gear. I stopped to enjoy the view for a while and this woman caught up to me and asked asked if I knew which way the Kokopelli Trail went. Somehow I didn't get the feel that she'd spent much time in the desert -- she was pretty pale, for example. And I didn't see anyplace where she could have stowed more than a gallon or two of water. I sort of felt like asking her: "Are you sure you know what you're getting into?" But I kept that thought to myself and told her what little I knew about the trail's route.

Anyways, it sounds like she survived the ride, though she did have some water difficulties. Here's her posting on it:

So what are these "skin suits" y'all are on about?

I've got my tri shorts that are bike shorts with a thinner chamois so

The tri singlet is basically a sleeveless bike jersey so

Wetsuit is, well, a wetsuit. Again,

Just what kind of monkey business are y'all into???

That's cool. Her book on the Iditarod trail looks very interesting, too.

And Askel, you may want to stay out of that blog. There's Pugsley stuff in there.

I should have stayed home. Three days, a hundred or so bucks for food, gas and a campsite and a thousand mosquito bites later, I rode for maybe three hours .

I don't know how familiar you are with the KT, but my favorite trail, Old Webs, is wrecked due to logging on that hill, but they have done some work to my 2nd fav trail, Side Winder, smoothing it out and adding a little stunt action near the end. Have fun up there and good luck with the weather!

Beg, borrow, or steal

a copy of the June issue of Outside. There's a great article on the L'Eroica.
