Getting the cat out of my can

I would like to remove the cats from my mufflers, but I really like the way they sound now. How will doing this affect the sound. Stock, I get a nice burble on over run. Does this become a backfire? Since there is no going back, thought I better ask.

SM and SD owners...if you haven't read this thread;

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196367

...you may want to do so, then check your oil jet. Mine was plugged and was affecting the ratchet return on up-shifts.

You should read Orange Crush as well, as that's where the tech stuff is for our bikes. At least look through the "Orange Crush Thread Index And Links" at the top of the page. Most of this stuff applies to our LC8 bikes as well.

Two weeks now on my new 07 950SM. 850 miles and first service done. Valves were in spec, oil jet was clear. Bike starts easy hot or cold. No stutter, no fueling issues, no problems except I CAN'T KEEP THE FRONT WHEEL DOWN!!!

Dayum! What a perfect machine.

So here's my dilemma... I was all set to do the SAS, evap-o-rectomy, pipes and jets, but why bother when it runs perfect? I suspect my living at 5000' ASL has put the mixture right.

Suggestions?

Because the bike runs like crap right now, compared to how it is after you remove all that junk, and rejet it properly :) Beleive it or not, theres alot left in there.

Well, that's kind of what I was expecting to hear. Anyone have recommendations for the optimum setup for 5000' ASL, Leo cans, fully de-PC-ized?

"if the 950 is a 9, this is a 10"

damn it.

somebody told me that once i got some orange in my veins, i wouldn't worry about the premium prices that KTMs command.

i'm afraid i'll have to trade up if the 990 ever makes it to the US.

heaven help me if KTM puts the 1190 in an SM.

That would be the only bike I'd ever consider selling my 950 for.. and even then I dunno if I'd do it.. I'm allready going waaay too fast on this bike, I dont need more power, haha!

Just in case you road warrior types don't peek into OC, I started an ownership poll to see what the v-twin ownership breakout on AdvRider looks like.
