So whats the verdict, Walter? Arer ya gonna swap to some laced wheels? Personally, I think a laced set of alcoa 17s would look GORGEOUS on the bike.

My front wheel now looks like that too. Nothing a block of wood and a BFG won't fix.

If I was as talented/resourceful as Brents347, maybe I'd do up a set. But I really think mags are a better match for the bike.

I agree that the laced wheels would look better.

Buying an 06 950 SM

I am selling my 1200 GS and have a chance to pick up a 950 SM for $7500.00. It is in perfect stock condition with 8K miles. Is this a good deal? How many miles can be put on these motors? I like this bike but have never owned a KTM twin. Any info or opinions are appreciated.

Snort - That was helpful. Assuming its an 06 based on milage, I think its in the ballpark if its in exc condition.

Okay... Maybe $7249.50 & 1/2.

I see the resale market really hammered right now by the economy. Excellent time to find great deals. But... With no 08 950SM imports this year, when the current supply goes down you'll see the prices firm up. Also, I think the general riding public has been slow on the uptake of how good these things are as an allround road bike. That too will change the equation with time.

GSStoner - Compared to the 950SM, the 1200 GS feels like a Buick Roadmaster. Durability? The GS boxer is just a German Harley. Runs forever because its basically just an antique tractor motor. A lot of ADV riders have big miles on their LC8s, but I'll gladely take any trade off for the performance and fun factor. I mean, that's what ridings all about anyway.

I paid $8600 for my 950SM in march 07 and it has 3k miles and some accessories like htd grips, tank bag, hand guards, heavier rear spring and a diff frnt spkt so $7500 sounds in the ballpark but maybe a little high. one thing i suggest is getting the sas and canister crap removed and put on different cans and re-jet. the bike runs great before these mods but un frigggin believably fantastic after these mods!

also i own an hp2 and the beemer is a pig next to the ktm. dont get the wrong idea i like my hp2 but i love my 950SM....

Anyone ever fitted offroad wheels from an 950/990 adventure to a 950SM?

I know I would have to treat the front brake with even greater respect.

I am not a hardcore offroader but I would like to fit TKC's or Distancias for a little more unsealed road ability.

I am more likely to have 19" and 17" wheels built but I was just curious.

Naw, that was kinda buried, and I know where to look...I've looked at it many, many times and if I had the money, I would do this swap myself!

There isn't an SE in my future, and I don't get hard core enough to warrent one. I have my SM, it's paid for and I love it, but another set of wheels would really be a fun swap.

BTW, just rolled up 10,000 miles today. In celebration I washed it. With soap AND water!
Now the water pump, clutch slave and fuel pump are all supposed to go on me...right?
Not on my watch!

Good for people buying now. I still can't believe how much this bike depreciated in the last two years. I think the 950SM is one of the most un-recognized bikes on the market... but then again, I wouldn't do differently anything. This bike is just too much fun.
