On many different calculations (twisties, highways, mix, with and without luggage (est. 40-50 lbs) I get about 150miles per tank so I usually start looking for gas after about 125-130 miles.

I certainly don't baby my SMR and I get 40 MPG (+/- 2 MPG) on a wide variety of roads. Doesn't seem to make any difference. I got 40-42 with H2W jetting and now get 38-40 with X-bike jetting (includes BMC air filter). Leo Vince slip-ons is the only other engine mod. It's been that way for all 45K miles now. But with the smaller tank on the SMR, I'm looking for fuel at 100 miles, the light comes on about 110 (give or take) and I'll be pushing the bike by 140.

Sorry but I don't have any tips since my MPG doesn't seem to change much regardless of how I ride.

thanks for all the feedback. waiting to hear back from the dealer. started looking at used ones, looks like they are anywhere from $5500-$7000.
and further in to research. I found the wheel sizes, and happen to have a set of wheels laying around that match. But, what size axles are they? I'm curious how easy they would
swap on.

Yeah, funny thing though..we were riding in the NC mtns, small towns north of Asheville..there was ethanol free high test all over the place..same price as ethanol laced gas...we were very surprised.

In the mtns I keep it buzzed up a bit because of the twisties, rarely out of 3rd and 4th gear on the two lane roads, that definitely hurt the mileage.

Damn those are some good values, the best I can is to reach around 112miles and then the fuel light comes up and I start to worry.

I heard somewhere that when the mufflers have some dark dirt on them perhaps its burning too much gasoline, here is a picture:



They are LeoVince.
Any thoughts?

Has anyone had this issue? My '06 950SM has been faultless until last week. I've got about 20K on it. I was riding along and the bike felt like it was running out of gas. Then it died. I knew I was not out of gas having just filled up the day before. So I pulled over and tried starting it. No Luck. Then I pulled the choke and it started. I pushed in the choke and it ran fine. Today it happened again. Same thing. Felt like it was running out of gas. Pulled over. It would not start so pulled the choke. It strated an ran fine. Any thoughts? Mike

Sounds like Fuel pump is starting to go. Mine went at around that mileage, some have gone as early as 12,000 miles. My bike is now at 38,000 miles and so I ordered one to have on hand when this one goes, which it will relatively soon.

When mine began to go, it was hard to diagnose because it would usually start up after it died, but it would behave like you described each time it died. Then it would seem to run fine. That would be my guess with the info you posted.

Mine is in for service because of a dead pump at 12,000 miles
