Of course, one of the carbs was almost totally gummed up and it didn't want to run past a fast idle. Any way, I took it out and ran the crap out of her and after about ten miles, that issue cleared up. It's not the first time it has happened. So, I was all happy she was running great.

When I got home, I noticed oil dripping off the side stand and I figured it was coming from the countershaft seal. I took the front sprocket off and it's dry under there. There was a lot of oily dirt around the clutch slave. I cleaned all that off.

Before I take off more parts. Does any one know where the leak might be? Thanks...
There is an o ring behind the gear position sensor that can cause a small oil leak. I had that happen and i kept getting oil all over my sidestand. Part # is 0770275025 O ring 27, 5X2,5 .

Oil leak

The position sensor sounds like the culprit. Thanks I'll order the part.

Amazing thread. I haven't visited it much since I got my 06 back in 06? (I think)

Anyways, I must confess that I have let the poor thing sit for nearly 2 years. Sinful, I know. You can flame me. I deserve it.

My only defense is that I have a few other bikes to ride AND I first let it sit because of a flat tire on a brand new Scorpion. I was pouting about that long enough for the battery to die and the fuel to sour. One thing led to another.......

Then I picked up a Super Tenere a year ago and the rest is history.

Well anyways, I am feeling the itch for some hooliganism. And I need to clear my conscious.

My question is this; the fuel vapors seem to have seeped through the tank and destroyed the adhesive on the OEM graphics. And I could be imagining it, but it might even be deformed or bloated a bit. Hard to explain.

Regardless, just wondering what options I have for tank replacement? I see the factory tank is priced at $1000.00. (Not even sure you can still buy them?) If I'm gonna fork out that kind of money, are there any aftermarket products available?

And finally, are there any other model\year tanks that can be made to fit an 06 SM?

I know buried somewhere in this HUGE thread some of this has been covered. But I'm on an iPad with Tapatalk and it is great for reading/posting. But searching isn't its strong suit.

I promise I will treat my SM like it deserves for now on. :)

Thanks

Not to someone who owns one

My feeling is that you can take the opportunity to create a custom graphic kit and keep the tank because while you can fit a 950SE, 950SMR, or 990SMT tank, you'd need to change some other expensive stuff as well. No aftermarket option afaik. One of the members had a one-off aluminum tank made; but again, not an inexpensive option.
