I just started looking at these cool cat bikes. The garage is full right now though. As soon as the DR and one of the trikes gets sold, I'll be contributing to the economy and taking away an SMT from some poor fellow.

Is there a good source for SMT accessories?

I've been looking at the S Dukes as well. I'm not to keen on the riding position though.

Any words of wisdom regarding the SMTs? (Now is your time to brag...)

Look forward to seeing pics of your new baby!

Finding the next bike is as much an adventure, as actually buying one! Congrats on selecting an appropriately pedigreed "orange steed".
The SMT guys have their own thread and they may have better experience to answer your questions.

Don't feel chased away, we got all types here, just a recommendation to get you a more accurate review! Besides, they need all the help they can get... sheesh, no posts since July 26th? Must just be a bunch of riders checking in and not too keen to gossip!

If you are interested in the KTM accessories, ktmparts.com is a great place. You get a 10% discount on every order by registering at the site. If you sign up for their emails, you periodically get additional discounts on top of that. They have the parts and accessory catalogs available online too. I just got 20% off on my last order.

Thanks, just found that myself. Went through every page. (Only 22 or so.) Until it ended, as you pointed out, on July 26.

The local dealer has one. Been trying to deal with them. I have a poor sales guy working with me though. He wont let a 2010 go for under 11000, plus tax.

I found another one with better luggage, anyhow.

After 15 sets of tires, I turned over 50K miles on my 2007 950 SMR today. I remember a reply from Walter back in 2007 when I was debating whether to buy the bike due to the various issues the 2006s were having (fuel pump, water pump, starter torque limiter, etc) and he stated that it's a kick-ass, imperfect motorcycle. The issues are well-known and so are the fixes. So true. So much fun. And such a perfect fit for the riding I like to do...

Good on ya Garry . You've been a very valued resource to many of us as you've piled on the miles.

So, I've been eyeing up the SMT and have found a nice example. I have just found a 2006 950SM in the locals and am now considering it. After seeing 50K miles on Garrys post, I'm convinced that it can't be a bad way to go.

I'm a little interested in these "various issues". They all seem small, but could be a hassle nonetheless.

Choosing a street bike is hard. I've also been looking at the older 955 Tiger as well. I'm very curious to see what I come out with.

Between this and the Orange Crush and HOW reference guide, all the issues are VERY well documented and there isn't anything too serious to deal with.

Fuel pump (plug and play), water pump rebuilds (kit is available with all parts needed and great instructions here) and consumables are the main things.

Ha! Yes, consumables. Like rear tires. They tend to wear quickly. Too quickly.

Haven't posted any photos from rides recently so here is how I spent my Sunday afternoon wandering around back roads in the Laurel Highlands of western PA. Took a bunch of photos because it was such a nice day...

Sweet pics Garry! Do you like that case you have on the back of your bike? Ive pondered getting something , or building something sorta similar like that just to throw a lunch and water bottles and shit like that in.
