Viewing City Select Files .GDB

I looked but could not find this info anywhere. Is there any way I can show a City Select file to someone who does not have that software? Can any other programs show it?

In mapsource, you can save a GDB file as DXF (for view in Cad programs), a text file that can be opened by a number of 3rd party programs, and as GPX.. the most recent/most usable of the export formats...

You can also open a mapsource file in Google Earth with view, view in Google earth... what you can do with it from there I'm not totaly up on...

This subject requires a bit of research to figure out what type is best for you... because if you want to view the track on a map background, or Google Earth, or whatever.. determines the path to take...

Al...

What do you want to show, just map detail off the screen, detailed route info/driving instructions?

I could live with the route laid out on a map, even better would be the map and directions.

I do that quite a bit.

For directions, you have two options. From the route dialog box, click on the directions tab. At this point your can:

1. Put the mouse of the tale of directions and select everything with the CTRL and A keys or right click and select "Select All", this will highlight everything. Next, use the CTRL-C keys or right click and select "copy". Now go to Excel (preferably) or whichever editor you want to use and paste it in, it is columnar data and a spreadsheet package works best.

2. Use the print button and run it off to a .pdf file or if you have the MS Office document imaging stuff installed it will put it out to a .tiff.

For the maps, I prefer a good old fashioned screen snap shot and then paste it into an image editor, safe it as a .jpg or .gif and be done with it.

The other option is send them a .gpx file and use Google Earth. The route won't be exact, but they will see the waypoints you have manually inserted.

Hope this helps.

What program do you use to do the screen snap?

Nothing required to other than pressing the PrtScn key in Windows when you have the map up as big as you can get it.

Then you can use MS Paint (Windows freeby) or any other image package you prefer, I use Photoshop, and paste the image in and save it as a .jpg.

Here's and example:
