spare fuel pump would be pretty easy. It's the bracket and those shitty elbows that would be difficult.

but you know, one of mine is in there with JB weld and that packs pretty well

Also check the loom under the seat. It runs around the top of the rear shock and rubs through.

Call Ray at Hall's, he will know if the kicker kit is still available.
I have had 5 Husky 610's over the years and never had a starter failure. Pack some small jumpers and enjoy.

I now have Big Dogs original. It has over 33k miles on it. Love that bike.

Thanks Xymo,,, I'm going to buy one and carry it. Really my only concern with this bike. I've already dealt with the elbows. The inside one lasted about about as long as the wierd euro fender extension license plate holder gizmo and yeah, I dont cross the border without JB weld!

backfiring 610

My 610 is really back firing when I let off the throttle lately. Did someone post one time about a broken or cracked boot between the carb and intake. I haven't started to take it apart yet but something screwy is going on.

Also check the loom near the battery - there have been reports of wiring running under the battery and chaffing through!

Do you still have the shields on the pipe? If yes, look at the tabs welded on to mount the shields. They crack at the weld and cause that. I also saw something about the boot cracking right where it bolts to the head.

DRZ weighs about 20 lb less than the 610 but has maybe 2/3 the power.

If I was looking for what you're saying you want, I'd just get an XRR.

A carbed TE610 can be bump started with a failed battery, and you can even run the tank dry in that condition, splash in a few ounces siphoned out of someone else's tank, bump start it, and get on down the road. (Been there, done that.) Not sure how you'd recover from a dead battery and a dry tank at the same time with an injected bike.

Clean the carb really, really well and use an inline fuel filter. My only repeating problem has been a clogged pilot. I haven't found a way to get at those parts without just taking the carb off, which means tank off, etc. PITA.

Yeah, they'll all do this eventually. Husky changed the p/n and the new part is $83 wherever you get it, except Motoxotica, which charges more. Don't know whether Husky actually improved the part to solve the problem, or just changed the vendor to one that would support the lower-volume of service parts for an out of production model.

Search back to this spring, I looked into getting some more durable manifolds machined from aluminum that would connect to the carb with a chunk of hose. Only two other people were interested then, so I dropped it.

I just siliconed up my stock manifold (it wasn't cracked all the way through yet), and have kept an eye on it. Don't know whether I'll machine parts or just prelube with Vaseline and go bend over at the Husky dealer when I finally need to replace it.

BTW, researching that deal was when I realized Motoxotica charges more than any other Husky dealer online for parts. Everyone else is one price, Motoxotica is more. And previously, they basically called me a cheap bastard and wouldn't take my order because I only needed about $10 worth of hardware the factory forgot to include when assembling the bike, and wasn't interested in a $50 gear bag or some other expensive, useless crap. They have made themselves my favorite dealer...to poop on.

Just FYI...I'm finding a ready to ride weight of 317 for the TE, and 319 for the DRZ

My TE weighs 340#. That is with stock tank with fuel, tool bag on rear luggage rack, dirt bag brackets, skid plate, tank bag, fender tube bag, gps mount w/gps, and hand guards (I think that's everything).

It would be interesting to see a side by side weigh in with two bikes with similar options. I have always thought that the two bike weigh close to the same.

TE610 has what 38 hp at the wheel and the DRZ 35? The DRzE is even lighter with more aggressive cams, many a drag race between my old 610 and a buddies DRZ400E had them exactly equal.

You're right about one thing, an XR650R will smoke 'em both.
