2 failed 76C's
My first 76C failed. Batteries seamed to loose contact. I could just tap it and it would go off. Tried to bend battery contact and it broke. Shoved a wire behind it and added tape to batteries to keep them from moving and it is now working on bike.
Bought 2nd unit for backup while I send in first unit form repair. Used 2nd unit this weekend. On 2nd day it started shutting down. Could not get it to stay on. Traded it with a guy in our group as I was leading. That night it would stay on with hard hits? However it now has a rattle. My old e-map did the same thing and the repair note from Garmin said that the "super cap" had come loose. I think they need some epoxy on the heavy parts with only two leads.

Do a search - more than a couple threads on the battery powered units shutting down due to vibration breaking the connections - and some effective fixes.

It is very well known that battery contacts go south if you leave the batteries in the unit in vibration conditions; whether on external power or not.
The choice is simple; either remove the batteries when the unit is on the moto (or whatever else vibrates) or send the unit back to have the contacts repaired every so often.... |

The rattle kind of tells me that there is a problem other than the contacts.
Some tape on the batteries so they will not move helps with the contacts.
