So what is the collected wisdom on helmet stickers?

After a 400 K ride yesterday with Todd Squad and Goosefether.. I decided to clean my helmet tonight.

Gave the visor and lid a good spray with perspex cleaner.. polished off the bugs.. and the standards sticker.

Came right off onto the microfibre cloth I was using. No sticky left at all.

So.. the helmet laws are so confusing for this old fart.. where do I stand.

Is the helmet still legal here in QLD or anywhere else for that matter?

It does have a cloth standards placard sewn into the lining..

If it still has the standards patch inside I'd say your right.

Hi Gents,

ummm... has anyone, not a mate of a mate, actually been booked for not having the AS sticker prominently displayed on the exterior of the(ir) helmet?

This issue goes round and round, ad infinitum... and lots has already been said but really, has anyone ever been booked, denied an accident insurance claim?
Has an assessor ever physically inspected the helmet post event and declared 'mate, your fucked, no AS sticker'...

Think a poll might be helpfull here...

I aint no saint. I've been pulled over for numerous 'speeding' infringements (some excruciatingly expensive) and have never had my helmet inspected for 'compliance' with AS.
Sure, 20 -30 kms over the limit might be the focus, but come on... surely all police are not fools and it's not like i have an ice cream bucket jauntily placed on my noggin!

I'm sure there are 'Officers' on this forum... so let's talk (off the record) about what's real and what's not real!

All my helmets are purchased from OS (for good economical reasons) and don't sport the holy AS sticker... burn me at the stake, but I know they all meet or exceed the silly local AS wankstandard and any formal legal challenge as to their efficacy (pre or post event) would be groundless.

Rant over.

What really irks me is the the AS sticker is so aesthetically challenged and it is valueless when your head decelerrates

Why are you worried about your helmet being legal because a sticker came off of the visor?

FWIW... I was always of the understanding that the adhesive silver decal/sticker, visible on the outer shell of the helmet, was merely there so that prospective customers could readily identify that particular model as being ADR compliant, when in the store/on the shelves and comparing various models.

I always assumed (maybe incorrectly) that it was the patch, sewn into the liner of the helmet, which was the definitive sign of compliance?

So my answer would be along that of leggo's...

I recall, back in the 90's, when some of the race skid lid painters brought up the topic of "custom painted" helmets, that this was brought up as well... Is the "sticker" the definitive label of compliance of the manufacturer... or just a decal to inform the consumer, which helmet is, and isn't ADR compliant.

Um, ok.

Happy,

Why were you worried about your helmet being legal or not, just because a sticker had been removed from a visor fitted to it?

Hope that makes more sense Troy.

Cruze.. there is no sticker on my visor.. never was. When I cleaned the visor with perspex cleaner.. I also cleaned the rest of the helmet.. and the stupid standards sticker came off the helmet itself.

With all of the helmet laws being charged I have no fucking idea if the sticker is required.. hence the question.

You never know which cop is going to have an argument with his wife and then go out the door with an attack of the shits.. and along comes me with no sticker. Want to know where i stand.

In 1974 I bought a new Celica that came with a metric speedometer... several months before metric change over date. I was on my way back from visiting a mate in Sydney and stopped for fuel in Armidale. A local copper (who obviously had a fight with his wife that morning) was admiring the car.. he looked in the window and noticed the metric speedometer... and threatened to write me a ticket because it was not in MPH.

At the time I was sales engineer and selling VDO instruments and the then federal laws (since changed) banned dual reading imperial/metric instruments to ensure we all got with the metric program. I explained this to him and that there would be a lot more cars out there with metric speedometers. They wouldn't all suddenly appear metric on the change over date.

Like I said.. you never know who you will meet out on the road...
