GREAT!

So you'll be going in from the CA side, and out in Verdi?

if that side is open, then the western stretch through to Nevada City should be open too. Sounds like a long weekend with the fly rod for me.

have fun, joe

Dave,

I was more worried about the western side. It has higher elevations, gets more moisture (snow) and has more trees (shade); so it was the section I would have expected to have late snow drifts.

My only concern now is the section from Jackson Meadows Res to 89. I know FS 07 is paved and open, but I'm more interested in the old Henness Rd dirt sections that parallel it. Maximum dirt for me. I have a 75 mile route that is 95% dirt from Camptonville CA to Verdi NV and I am hoping its ALL clear.

Report on Monday.

Not sure why the old attachment isn't accessible anymore, and there apparently are still issues with uploading new attachments. If you PM me with your email address, I can email you my Henness Pass gpx file. Note that it is set up as a route, not a track.

Dirt is all over, squirrel creek after Pike city, and from Alleghany you can go south toward german bar, cross the Yuba then it is pretty steep toward bucks ranch, and you join the Malakoff diggins-graniteville rd.

Get the good National Geographic map of the Tahoe national forest, it is all there. The Forest service map is not good.

Have a great time Mendo. Did it just couple weeks back and had a great time! The road has lots of places to cut off and sight see. Main road is no problem but do watch out for the rare log truck. Saw 2 or 3 camps on the southern side. Also heard there might have been snow last night. Doubt it will stick at all but be forewarned it may be a bit cool. Couple weeks ago I was sleeping in a tee-shirt. Crazy time of year. If you want a great place to camp try Bear Valley just a bit north where the trail crosses 89. There's a beautiful canyon towards Sierraville called Lemon Cyn. Spectacular any time of year. Enjoy!
