That would probably work but I already bought the gaskets for the job anyway, was only £20 all in and looks a simple enough job anyway.

pull the tank off, disconnect the spark plugs from the spark plug wires, disconnect and rotate-away AI tubes. you should have clear access to remove the cam cover, with a little maneuvering. oh, and the cam cover is in place with torx head screws. why torx head? because f&*k you, that's why.

Yeah I noticed they were torx heads, I don't get it either, I had to change two bulbs in my car last week, what was holding the surround in place? You guessed it torx screws, what's wrong with a pozi or phillips head?

i love my bonneville. don't get me wrong. that said, there are some things about it that make me want to sack england. like the torx screws on the cam cover. shim & bucket valves on a low revving under stressed engine. factory seats that ruin your pelvis. stock exhaust that hinders easy chain maintenance. "performance" exhausts that are 1/6 the cost of the bike and make only 4 more hp (for $1,200, it should make at least 10hp, and i should be able to use panniers without clearance issues). rear wheel so narrow you have merely a handful of tire options. serious love-hate relationship. serious.

...but there's nothing else that gives me the same riding pleasure.

Monroe Station on the Tamiami (Tampa to Miami) Trail. I have 70,000 miles on the Bonneville now. Aside from the rectum fryer giving up and flattening the battery I had a valve scare when some carbon stuck a valve open in one cylinder. The subsequent loss of compression led my mechanic to think a valve job was in order but further inspection and cogitation led him to think not. A clean up and reassembly and I will soon be able to test the theory after several tiresome weeks off the road. This is the season to explore south Florida. Loop Road:

Finally have some pics of my T100. So far I've changed the bars, added some BC Sleepers, and had the fuel map updated. The only other thing I plan on doing soon is to buy and install a Burton café seat.
