Dunno. I've only got 50cc's of raw power here in the scoot forum. Over in JM I've got a mighty (pinging)1150cc's of throbbing, surging boxer gumption to work with.

You got any scoot rallies coming up in your neck of the woods?

I think this was really weird. I think leapfrog took the rant seriously and as if it was aimed at scooterists, not the invisible inexperienced rider I encountered. And Monk thinking I was a motorcyclist making fun of scooters? For pete's sake...I went through all KINDS of crap to get this forum going.

I liked your thoughts on the frustration of running up on an accident scene and wishing the rider was not hurting so much...and yes, I agree that some scooter riders seem to be in a parallel world of riding versus just another displacement class when it comes to some things, and it causes a culture clash sometimes. I saw it unfold here in this thread.

cheers!

nOObs seem to be a bit defensive. Can't blame em,,, OK I guess we can.

Just like anything, with familiarity, comes bravado. The'll be back.

A great rant IMO, Thanks for the foray into your scooter thread. Back to The Gruvers of Alaska, I go.

But I keep watching, ya never can tell when it will get fun once again.

I also would welcome a scooter group tp Alaska. Maybe to our Dust 2 Dawson ride to Dawson City, Yukon Territories. It would be a kick!

That would be fun! I used to live in Anchorage. I rode the Alcan in '84 on a really beat up old Honda CL360. I was too dumb to do any preparation--dumb kid on my first motorcycle. I'm surprised I didn't turn into a set of bleached bones on the side of the road I'm planning on going back up there in a year or so--I'm just saving up the money to do it. I'll most likely do it on the GS, though. But it would be fun to run around on a scoot in Anchburg.

Until then I'll just lurk in your ride reports and enjoy them!

Take care--hope to see you on the road someday.

Here is an idea.

Set up a IBA ride on scoots, to Alaska. Start a thread and see who steps up for housing and assistance.

Us Gruvers have been pretty accomodating, in the past.

An IBA ride to AK on a scooter?

That'll have to be better people than me.

Coast to coast has been done, why not mexico to Alaska?

I might even be persuaded to do it, although a scooter would have to be a tough sum a beeotch to carry the Gusgus around.

But I think a good ol double dare ya might just get me going.

50cc's would be a streach for sure.

Oh, I know it can be done, just like people can walk across the country too. I just wouldn't want to subject myself to that. Not to mention the time involved would be way too much..

I think the modern scoots would do it fairly easily (in a relative sense). My choice would be a classic, like the Stella or Vespa PX. Those are really tough varmints. Vespa made an ISDE 6-Day version and they've run 'em in Dakar.

The only problem I have with scoot touring is the time involved. I enjoy it...but it takes twice as long with a cruise speed of 45 or so. It's enjoyable--I don't mind the speed--but for me it's an issue of getting that much time off work.

I'd LOVE to do a tour on the Stella or a CT-110, or TW225. After 25 years of motorcycling, it's like it's new all over again to cruise a bit slower. At first it was a bit frustrating, then I got into it...and now I'm hooked. I'm seeing stuff I've missed. AGain, the only problem is getting the time off to cover any significant ground...but at least in I'm getting a good eyeball of this portion of the state.

I'm really diggin' on what Greystroke did to his Vespa for his trip around Austrailia. Hey Gusgus--if you get a chance read the Scooters in the Sahara ride report that's stickied at the top as well as Adventure Scooting Oz Style.

I have to admit I felt a twinge of shame after looking at your pics. You see, I ride a Vstrom and it was rather humiliating to see another Strom occupying the same pic space with a scooter. Especially on what was being advertised as a REAL ride...countywide poker runs just don't count, sorry.

I wasn't taking anything seriously at all. And personnally I thought my posts showed that. I like this board because people can and do say what they want unlike a lot of other boards I have visited. I don't take offense to anyone jumping at me as long they understand that I will jump back, I have to "De-Fend" myself.
