Food stand

Mofongo is the mashed plantain 'cake' on each plate, Puerto Rico's particular dish, each here accompanied one by chicken, the other by beef. Very filling.

We stopped at Jack's Dad's place for lunch, Jack being our guide on a run up the Thai / Burma border. We'd just crossed back into Thailand... about 100 metres from the house... and we were offered rice with pork. More arteries, bones and offal than meat... but it hit the spot after a hard morning's dragging bikes through bogs

Garbo's Grill, Key West

Supposed to be on the Food Channel on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Key West's premier food truck, they say. It's not bad at all.

Clewiston near Lake Okeechobee

Owned by US Sugar Corporation which grows sugar cane with eleven billion in subsidies from your tax dollars, and imports Jamaicans to cut the cane, so you owe it to yourself to see what free enterprise capitalism does with your tax dollars. Not a bad fried chicken lunch, actually in a formal and delightfully somber dining room:

There's the chicken:

The formal looking Clewiston Inn and they have rooms too which I'd like try but they don't take dogs and I like to travel with my dog when my wife and I take road trips.

Though the approach roads, in the interest of full disclosure are the typical South Florida flatness and straightness:

It's not called Flatistan for nothing. The initial interest growing sugarcane may hold doesn't last for long. Seen one stalk, seen 'em all!

DJ's Clam Shack on Duval Street, Key West

They claim they import Maine lobster for their roll:

And they fry genuine Ipswich clams flown down from New England. This is the only place like it in Key West so I have no clue how authentic it is. It tasted good but nothing like local seafood...must be real!

This place is supposed to be on TV next month in an all Key West edition of the Food Channel show:

Been to that place many years ago in FL. Going around Lake Okeechobee was fun at least.
