Ristorante La Porta, Giglio castello, Tuscany.

Our lunch stop while visiting the Island of Giglio off Italy's Mediterranean coast.

The ferry didn't leave for hours so we had a leisurely lunch with all courses. Pears wrapped in bacon,
with a jug of the local straw colored white wine, Ansonaco, in the background.

Seafood risotto:

Crema Catalana, a form of creme brulee:

from our eaerie above the island we watched the activity far below as we ate and drank and talked, my wife and I;

Then we went for a walk up and down the alleys of the town at the top of the island, the Castello:

And finished with a ride around the island:

Giglio (Lily Island in Italian) had its fifteen minutes of fame when the cruise ship went aground off the main port
of the island but it is well worth the rather expensive one hour ferry ride from Porto Santo Stefano.

The crew takes good care of bikes on the vehicle deck.

I wondered about these but figured US Customs might not find them as amusing as I did.

I found them while on the road but I'm not sure they are actually "road" food.

Road food is good.

A little work and dinner was delicious and fresh.

Or the various red meat we ate last weekend is good too.

It's a toss up. On top the onions fall off and underneath just means soggy buns. I'm a traditionalist, bun-dog-mustard-sauce-onions-repeat. Then repeat....

My usual was "two with buried, rings and a Coke."

(Honestly though, I'm a McSweeny's guy at heart...)
