The way I see it is that you can never have enough wind protection. I went to a bike rally this weekend and got this cool little add on screen called and Aero Trim, it's absolutely brilliant. I was very surprised at the quality and the price , it retails at R 350.00 which is about $50.00 and the workmanship is superb. It just fits with double sided tape.
The guy makes them for all brands of bikes and lasers the logo on the front of it. PM me if you are interested and can get hold of them for you

Dirt: Alpinestars M6 boots. They've taken hits well and are always comfortable.

Street: Joe Rocket Mercury leather jacket. I've got a full suit for cold and wet and mesh for really hot but this jacket is by far my favorite. Honestly I was looking for a Alpinestar jacket, but none of them fit me. Well I found this jacket on a clearance rack and I liked the design, venting options, armor, and the thickness (1.4mm). I know it ain't no Vanson, but it fits me great and makes me feel 'solid' on top of my machine. I've got some JR gloves that match and fit great as well.

Thermometer

I don't know why but I really like knowing the outside temperature. I ride through a little valley and think, "Whew, sure is cold here" and see that the temp dropped 10 degrees. Go figure. I got this one mounted on my triple clamp and it looks great:

http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/...r-p-16326.html

I have votes as well for:
Schuberth S1 (Wow - quiet!, and I love the visor)
Dainese Leather Jacket (Darien stays in the garage...)
Roadcrafter pants with suspenders
LD Comfort underwear (not so good for walking about though - kind of scratchy)
MP Cycle Design Windshield (No more bobble head)
Heated grips
Gerbing jacket
Gerbing G3 gloves (Hooray! No cold fingers for an hour after a ride)
Throttle Rocker (forget it is there, long day? No problem)
Scottoiler (Nice lubed chain, no more spraying)
Oxtar Matrix boots(Better after 2 years than when new)
Gel Seat
Givi Luggage
Wolfman Explorer tank bag

That's enough. And one V-strom to hold all the farkles!

bicycle shorts

I am a nooby to this site but not to riding motorscooters (35+ years) and after reading through this whole thread, which I am very appreciative of all the great ideas, I would like to add that on long rides my gel lined bicycle shorts are the best single item I have ... of course my '07 GSA is ain't a bad ride.

Thumb

Two pieces. One, a Dell Axim wireless pocket p.c. and my cell phone with VZ navigator. Makes looking for a map obsolete. Good for road trips cause I can load maps onto my Axim and just pull em up. The maps come with up to date construction, and places to get, see,do stuff.

Crazy about bags

My wife and I had a deal... I could get a new 07 v strom if I got rid of my bag collection. I had tons of bags. Paniers, tank bags, tail bags, soft luggage, hard cases. I had every bag I have ever used from every bike I have ever had beginning in 1983. So I either gave them away or sold them with my other bikes (another condition for the the strom) but they are all gone. Then I saw the motofizz tail bag. Bought one the next day. This is my favorite bag / equipment thus far. What a fantastic product!!!

Great thread- best value item ? a .5 cent piece of electrical tape across the top of my faceshield- every one of my shields has it, and all my wifes shields.
The supervisor is probably better, I have not tried one yet.

Multi tool- the kershaw with vicegrips rocks. With the vice grips you can clamp things, and use them to hold a scalpel blade or hacksaw blade or?

A piece of tubing to jam under the swingarm spool to het the rear whell off the ground.

A tiny volt ohm meter about credit card size but thicker, from radio shack. Folds up into it's own case.

ZRX1200R- The big motor 60's muscle car of bikes. Unlike most guys, I went for comfort with lower pegs, higher bars, round headlight conversion to accept a full plexifairing. And still have 80 F lbs and 115 hp on tap and it gets 52mpg with a moderately light touch. The ultimate ujm.

Almar SERE- an expensive knife, but it has never failed me in extreme use- like cutting through 50 2" wide sand encrusted straps from a heliocopter cargo net, using a smooth river rock to resharpen. Opening tin cans .Doing all the stuff you are never supposed to do with a knife, because it is the only tool you have to use at the time.

Works on the bike and in the Land Rover, it comes with all the mounts for both. It even has a motorcycle icon when you are on the bike.

I was just on the strip over 7/4, so I'm quoting this for truth.
