I don't understand the allure of trikes for healthy people.
But I completely understand the need for them for folks like me. A lot of people look absolutely normal but have disabilities--MS comes to mind--and can't balance a bike or have issues with fatigue that make it impossible to finish a short ride on two wheels. I've also talked to several motorcycle dealership owners who say that older riders are getting off the big tourers and onto maxi-scooters since they are easier to handle once severe arthritis starts creeping into the picture. They are able to do long distances two-up on the big Burgmans just as easily as they did on their Gold Wings and Road Kings and LT's. The BMW dealer I talked to sold 7 LT's this past year; 21 the year before--he said his customers had started trading down to Maxi scoots in order to keep riding. I can ride, but mounting/dismounting is nearly impossible, and getting my feet on and off the pegs is tough. A step-through frame is the answer for me for half of the problems. Who knows what this was intended for, but I know for a fact there are a lot of injured/disabled motorcyclists who would jump at the chance to ride again no matter how many people laughed at the bike. Which sorta redefines who the "pussy" is, doesn't it.
