It was my understanding that if the clutch lever switch were shorted out the side stand switch was also.

With the clutch switch shorted, you would still need either the kickstand up or the bike in neutral to start.

If you connect both clutch switch leads to ground you bypass all crank/run safeties (neutral switch, kickstand switch, clutch lever switch).
Shorting them together only bypasses the clutch lever switch. Dave
