Back in 2008, October 2nd to be exact, these two intrepid travelers came through Glennallen, Alaska, headed for the South 48. A few miles west of here they had run under the clouds and into worsening weather. But they motored on, determined to put some miles behind them and, hopefully, get out from under the clouds.
![]() ![]() ![]() But... maybe that wasn't such a good idea. ![]() We loaded the two bikes onto my 16' flatbed trailer and hauled them another 60 miles up the road, to dry pavement. They would have been fine had they kept traveling to the north side of Mentasta Pass, but they only rode another 22 miles and stopped for the night, allowing the storm to catch up and pass them. They woke up to snow covering their bikes the next morning. Experienced some of that phenomenon myself a time or two, like this one in early May at the top of Fourth of July Pass in Idaho ![]() And a few days later, standing on the shore of frozen Muncho Lake in B.C., looking north up the Alcan at the snow falling where I was headed. ![]() Snow on Atigun Pass is to be expected, and when it looks like this from the bottom - ![]() - it's not surprising that it looks like this at the top. ![]() Took a couple of photos, then beat a hasty retreat.

On my way to work one morning (Sucks to be in Africa
)![]() Again, on my way to work. (The resort where I work is in the background, you can see Marquee tents they set up for a wedding in the background, to the left) The late Idi(ot) Amin's house is just to the right on the tip of that peninsuala, if I can call it that, for those who know about him. Anyway . . . . All good . . . . ![]() Meanwhile, behind me . . . . ![]() I realize they it doesn't look ver threatening, but being in Uganda, a couple of miles away from the equator, you have about 10 or 15 minutes to find shelter before it rains cats and dogs. rangtangtang screwed with this post 09-03-2011 at 04:08 AM |

Not Irene. Perdido Key is on the Gulf Coast near the Flora/Bama state line.
It was just one of our typical summertime heating of the day and growing of the clouds routine. Betcha it was raining like hell under that thunder boomer moving on shore... VERY COOL snow pictures!
